“to do at SOL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

A very interesting place full of joy, happiness and activity. I visited this place during weekend (20&21 Apr-13) and found the name is just perfect however most of people preferred Moon time. During day time I experience that people of Madrid only work ( office, home) but after sunset they prefer to visit SOL (Gateway of Sun) . Started walking through narrow lane connecting with broad street, surrounding area like Latina.
All joints/ place were full of smiling people. Very contrast with respect to main street of Madrid which has park, side walk lane.
People preferred meet at crowded place but stay at quitter place.
Food: Spanish beer was not tasty. Transportation and food are cheaper than Ireland, UK, Germany and India. Sea products are fresh and tasty.
People: Despite 27% unemployment, I did not find the anxiety on the face and behaviour of Meridians. They walk fast but it is different from Irish and Indians people. Value of life, respect individual is high. My perception changed about Spanish speaking peole (read Loud) after visiting Madrid, They are calm and quite, never mind other business. They are jolly with full of life. Compare to Ireland I found they have more people and Car on street, people donot talk English but they respect by showing the body language.
Weather: I am here during (Apr-May-Jun) and weather is extremely good, bright sun over head and slow/cold/calm breeze touching your face without pollution. During day light I am wearing the same way I used to in India (Shirt & Pant) however in absence of sun light light jacket is must.
Stay: I am staying at Mugel Angel street 3. Which is posh area.
Transportation: Nearest metro station is 2 minutes’ walk. I used metro but I found Taxi is faster. Vodafone office is situated northern part (near airport) and Accenture office is in southern part. As I am staying in central Madrid, I found 20-25 euro is enough to travel any distance. Roads are good. Maximum taxi are Scoda or hybrid Toyota. Mostly drivers are male however yesterday i met lady taxi driver at 11PM night near to Hotel Meriot.

Guy intrested in friendship with beautiful girl, can visit street adjusent to McDonald to find paid services.

will countinue with me experience ......

“The hart of Madrid”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Start every day/night in sol. you will always find people there and the feeling is great. it is a starting point for the commander "Madride free tours" (i do not recommend their bar stroll, only the free tour).

“Overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

I went by here a few times and honestly didn't see the big deal. From a utility standpoint, it's handy as many relevant streets converge here and there's a metro station. And culturally it's significant, being "ground zero" and all that. But apart from some nice statues and buildings the square itself is unremarkable, and not even very attractive.

“Always happening.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

This little Plaza is always alive. Wether it is the daily protest rally, skaters hanging out, tourists sitting by fountains to rest thier weary feet, or the constant flow of shoppers crossing the plaza on their way to the Sol Metro, there are always people to watch. The statue of the bear, that has become a symbol of Madrid is easy to locate for a quick photo op. The tile showing Puerta Del Sol to be the center of Madrid, is located across the street in front of the brick government building with the clock. Great area to rest and enjoy the hustle bustle movement of city life. Do watch for pickpockets though.

“A Dynamic City Hub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

The Puerta del is a hub connecting around 5 major streets. It is an open square with lots of shopping, restaurants, a metro station and street entertainment. I really enjoyed the intensity of the square even if the weather is bad. This also is an area where you have to watch for pickpockets. This square feels like the heart of Madrid and is a fun place to visit.
