“Great hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We stayed in a superior room on the 5th floor for 3 nights and it was worth every penny. The hotel is located within 5-10 mins walk from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol and you can easily walk to the major attractions such as the Palacio Real and the three most important museums (Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia) as well as the Retiro Park. The surrounding streets and squares are full of life and color and the hotel building itself is amazing.

The room itself was very modern spacious, although it was facing the atrium in the inside of the building so there was not a lot of natural light coming in. The amenities were great and the superior room includes the add-on wellness (mimos) menu, from which one can order special pillows, candles, bath salts and even an iPod dock, books and board games. All included in the room rate.

Breakfast was really good too with a wide range of offerings for all tastes. The hotel's restaurant is a modern tapas bar supevised by a renowned chef, which means that room service is very cool, but the restaurant itself can get rather crowded especially on Friday and Saturday evening.

Room Tip: Rooms on the inside facing the atrium have poor natural light.

we are from Qatar
We recently traveled to Madrid and spent nine nights at this hotel during November 2012 & had a great stay in a modern designed beautiful classic building; consideration to detail, clean, friendly and helpful staff, would certainly stay at this hotel again. It is ideally located in the city center and near to sightseeing. Our room was well laid out with the only complaint being that it was a bit too warm, which well souled by hotel manager and transfer us to other upgraded
room and this was really nice and we appreciate their help.
I really can't say anything immoral at all about this hotel. The rooms were modern and the bathroom was supplied with lots of luxuries. Nice view balcony and really perfect daily breakfast. Internet WIFI operated well in the room. The hotel is just opposite to square or plaza that was an enjoyable place to sit outside and have a drink. Close to the shopping district, public transportation and lots of good restaurant.

thanks NH hotel

Room Tip: corner suites are large and quite

I recently traveled to Madrid for a weekend and we stayed at the NH Palacio de Tepa hotel, which is conveniently located in the city center. Modern design in a beautiful classic building; attention to detail, clean, friendly staff, would definitely stay here again!

In a Nutshell:
Location great.
Some rooms are good others are bad (1st and 5th floor).
Amenities and Service are great.
Breakfast is excellent.
No pool.
Mini Gym.
Will return only for a better room.

If you want the story:
Tepa is located a a short walk from Puerta del sol which is the heart of Madrid. We were upgraded on arrival and offered a superior room on the fifth floor or a Junior suite on the first floor (although we asked for a room on the fourth floor pre arrival as we knew there are good and bad rooms in this hotel - They were occupied)
The Fifth floor Superior had a hatch rather then a window so we forfeited. The junior suite (room 102) had a mini shower room and was overlooking the hotel entrance but felt the better option.
Over the next three nights stay we found that this room had old windows permiting wind to enter the room, rendering the room cold. Wooden shutters, operative in closing the portals to light, noise and wind, were hard to manipulate. The bed was a twin with a large mattress above. It was rocking and unstable. The room was smelly (Sewage?) at times. This, in sharp contrast to the hotels lobby's smell which was devine.
The bathroom and shower were so small I could barely wipe myself after showering.

On the good side: The room came with free coffee (nespresso machine), tea and water which were replaced twice daily. Two large screen TV's and a decent storage space.
Breakfast was superb as you can ask the chef for fresh salad and eggs in addition to a rich selection of everything.
The staff was very courteous and helpful.

On the other side:
The hotel has a small (one computer) business center (for a cost) and free wi-fi all over.
No pool. A small Gym.

Conclusion:
This is not a cheep hotel. I would expect better accommodations.
I would return only if guaranteed a better room.

Room Tip: Dont take the fifth or first floor rooms unless above mention problems fixed

We spent three nights at this hotel during November 2012 & had a great stay. It is ideally located for sight seeing & the staff are very helpful in pointing out sites of interest & providing local information. Our room was well laid out with the only complaint being that it was a bit too warm. The breakfasts are a bit on the costly side but were plentiful & offered a varied choice; so in short did not mind paying a bit extra for the convenience. All in all very satisfied with our stay & would happily return.

Room Tip: We overlooked the square to the side of the hotel on the 1st floor & were very happy.

I just got got back from a very short visit to Madrid and had a very pleasant stay at the NH Palacio de Tepa. The hotel is very well located in a popular area of Madrid filled with wonderful restaurants and bars offering tapas and other Spanish specialties. The hotel itself is clean, modern, sleek and friendly. The free wifi is fast and easily accessible. The breakfast buffet should please anyone's taste buds. All being said, I gave this hotel 5 stars mainly for their wonderful service. The front desk personnel were the most helpful, friendly and efficient I have seen in a long time. We had a baggage delay. Their assistance in making us comfortable and offering us anything we might need until our bags arrived was much appreciated. We are now anxious to give other NH hotels a try, but will certainly return to the NH Palacio de Tepa!

When we arrived at this hotel, the desk clerk notified us that we were being upgraded from the superior room that we had requested to a junior suite. Unfortunately we found that the latter room was on the ground floor in the front of the hotel, where traffic noise was bothersome even with the shutters closed. When we asked for another room, they generously provided us with a very spacious and well-appointed two-story junior suite overlooking the square in back of the hotel, a room that we enjoyed very much. This room was quiet when the window was closed and yet early in the evening we opened the window and enjoyed the music in the square. (Note, however, that the stairway between the sitting and sleeping spaces is steep, so if you have trouble negotiating stairs this particular suite would not work for you.) The customer relations manager subsequently called us to make sure we were comfortable with our new room, which we also appreciated. Overall, we give high marks to this hotel and the staff. One complaint: we learned that the breakfast room only opened at 8am. As we had breakfast included in our room rate and were scheduled to leave for the airport at 8:30am, we asked whether we could get an earlier breakfast somehow. The otherwise very helpful desk clerk just said no and that was that. It's hard for us to believe that there is no demand from guests at this hotel for pre-8am breakfasts.

Room Tip: Beware traffic noise in street-front rooms on low floors. We enjoyed our room in the back of the ho...
