“clean, comfortable but shared bathroom a problem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

I stayed here for 2 nights in a budget single room with shared bathroom. The room was an internal room with no external window and only a small window opening onto the corridor. It was very clean, comfortable bed and had a small sink but no soap was provided.
The room was very hot and even though a fan was provided it was extremely warm. The shared shower and toilet were both in the same room which was rather inconvenient . I got up at 7 am and went to use the toilet but it was occupied , I went back 5 minutes later and again 5 minutes later and it was still occupied. A hair dryer was not provided but they could be obtained from reception.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
I would stay here again , but would got for a room with and en suite.

Room Tip: have an en suite bathroom

My husband and I stayed in March for three nights. Rooms were small but comfortable, furnishing were up to date. One complaint, there was a plastic cup on the top of the shower (believe it had soap in it form the last guest), that was there when we checked in and was still there three days later. We got toilet bowl cleaner put in our toilet every day, but never cleaned, its kind of "do it yourself". This was our first "hostal" stay, so maybe the toilet thing was standard, but we did expect room to be better cleaned for arrival We arrived early and they did store our luggage which was very convenient. Location was perfect, right near train station. Price was right and comparable to hotels, so thought services would be similar. We did enjoy our stay though. Would recommend, but be aware of services that are not provided as in standard hotels. Also, towels could be upgraded as they are very worn and non-absorbent.

We booked Hostal Abel Victoriano for my husband's 30th birthday for 3 nights in Mid-March. Our stay was mid-week but Madrid was still a lively but laid-back city. The hostel itself was spotless, new modern decor, laminate floors and friendly, helpful staff. I had advised the hostel of my Husband's birthday prior to arrival so they had arranged for us to have a room with a balcony overlooking the street below. They also arranged for a small bottle of complimentary sparkling wine and complimentary breakfast tokens for the three mornings we would be in Madrid. This was a lovely gesture and very gratefully received. The rooms were compact and warm. I understand our room was one of the bigger rooms as i peeked into another during changeover and found it was smaller! One word of warning though, if you like to sleep with the window open then don't expect an early night! Madrilenos are real night-owls and often party until 6am!
The hostel was very close to the metro and quite easy to find with a basic map from our Lonely Planet guide.
Overall we had a great stay and really enjoyed Madrid as a destination. Many thanks to the staff at the hostel, we had a great time.

Location is quite central and there is a metro station just 1-2 minutes away. We were surprised to see that the hostel is on the 2nd floor of a building.
Staff is very friendly. Only one of them spoke very fluent English and she even gave us some ideas about the city. Other staff try to help and if you know some Spanish words, it gets easier.
Our room was very small but we were already aware of that so it's no surprise.
Room cleaning is nice and the first day you see the towel swans as on the picture on the bed.
There are not much toiletries so I suggest you bring them yourself.
You can have breakfast at the cafe next door.
The toilet reservoir was very noisy and it sounds like a water booster.
The price was very good for the hotel.

we stayed at the Victoriano for 5 nights in February, the staff were very helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable.Rooms were warm as is was still a bit chilly outside. The Metro was literally outside and the main street was no more than 10 mintes walk. we would definately recommend, and plan a return visit as Madrid is a fab city break. Reception staff spoke English and gave us discount vouchers and help with tourist destinations.

Room Tip: not too near reception

Even if we weren't pro hostals, we said: "Let's try at least once".
We stayed here for just one night on a short break in Madrid. The location is very good, near a metro station (the only inconvenient here are the metro stairs and the links till getting up), just near the city center. You have plenty of restaurants, tapas bars and coffee shop around. The room is little but very clean and cozy. The walls are a little bit thin, you hear anything on the hall, and you are heared from anywhere.
The receptionist and all the people there are very nice and helpful and full of pleasant surprises.
This is a very good place to stay in for a couple of days, for a short stay. It's very cheap, with all you need and nice people.

Spent 3 nights with friends in Madrid and used this convenient hotel as a base. Very clean and friendly helpful staff. The only downside I would say was the bedroom seemed to be over the metro system and the rumbling of the trains could be heard. The laminate flooring didn't help either as people coming in during the early hours or leaving at 6.30 in the morning could be heard clip clopping along the passageways. The idea of breakfast tokens is a bit different but allowed us to visit more than one cafe during our stay. Overall very handy and value for money.
