This apartment house is located literally in the center of Madrid, on a busy pedestrian shopping street steps from the Gran Via and about two blocks from the Puerta del Sol. The building itself is a little spooky with narrow , dimly lit corridors. We had a studio apartment for a week. Unfortunately, it was an interior apartment so that our windows looked out onto a narrow air shaft with absolutely no view. The kitchen and bathroom were modern and functional but the decor of the bedroom/sitting room certainly left something to be desired. The walls were painted a pale yellow with a green accent wall. The torn curtains were magenta, the throw on the futon was orange, the quilts were mismatched. Torn cushions were placed on the hard chairs placed by the small dining table. Despite this decorator's nightmare, we had everything we needed. Wi-fi was not working at first but after three days it was repaired. From this location we were able to walk to all the main tourist attractions including El Prado, the Plaza Mayor and El Palacio Real. Madrid is a beautiful city with its wide avenues and pretty parks but the mark of poverty is on the city. There are three or four beggars to every main street. The "working girls" on Calle de la Montera posed no problem for us. After a few days we exchanged greetings with the regulars . Prostitution is legal in Spain. All in all, I'm not sorry we stayed here. If you are in Madrid, don't forget to stop at El Museo de Jamon, a cafe/bar/restaurant/ bakery/deli. We had drinks and tapas here daily and also had Sunday dinner. The food is delicious and inexpensive but the place is always very crowded. It gives you a chance to rub elbows with the natives.
