Description: Botn is the oldest restaurant in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. Located in the heart of Madrid, at the foot of the Arco de Cuchilleros and next to the Plaza Mayor, it was founded in 1725 and was a meeting place for Madrid's bohemian and literary set. Botn offers Madrid-style hospitality in a convivial and friendly setting, with traditional decor. The restaurant prides itself on using the finest ingredients accredited by the respective quality marks in order to offer guests traditional recipes that have been passed down from father to son over the years, cooked in a natural and artisan way. Its specialities include roast suckling pig and lamb cooked in traditional Castilian style in a wood-fired oven that has been in use since 1725. Botn treats all its diners the same - whether politician, famous artist or its neighbourhood regulars.

“A Must Tourist Trap!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

Definitely a tourist trap but one that you must go as Botin is the oldest restaurant in the world per Guinness WR. The restaurant has 4 levels with a great ambiance and plenty of corridors with great detail. We made reservations over the internet for a party of 4. We were seated in the basement/wine cellar which was great. Although it was crowded for dinner on a weekend, the waiters were very attentive and polite. We wanted to order the whole suckling pig for the table but it is only for a party of 6 but the waiter brought out a whole pig and we took pictures allowing others at tables to do the same. It was great as we got to hear all the great comments about the food and wine from the people all around us. The waiter gave us 4 menus to take with us as a souvenir. The suckling pig and lamb shanks were delicious and the meal came with wine and dessert all in all the price was very reasonable for Madrid.

“Cool History, Delicious Pig!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Definitely a must eat restaurant. We came here our first night and ordered the suckling pig. It was delicious, salty and cooked to perfection. By far the best ever.
The service is wonderful and the preservation of the oldest restaurant in the world is pretty cool.

“La Botin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

I must say this is a place I had wanted to visit for 30 years, having been in the restaurant business myself. I read many of the reviews on Trip Advisor. Finally in May of 2013, we got to go. I had made reservations on the internet, however we found it really didn't make any difference as long as you got to the door by 8:00 PM. There is no question it is a tourist place, but I think a neat tourist place. We followed the advice of one reader and ate in the basement or wine cellar. The food was OK, and by Madrid standards not too expensive. We would not ever again order the house wine even though the other is much more expensive. Would we go back....probably.....

“Great Lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2013

We stopped in Botin for lunch without a reservation and they were able to fit us in on the basement level, which we absolutely enjoyed as you feel like you have stepped back in time. The atmosphere was excellent, the service was great and we also very much enjoyed the food. We had the anchovies with peppers to start and the suckling pig. Based on our experience we can highly recommend a meal at this restaurant that dates from 1725.

“A unique restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

This particular restaurant is unique in it's category, waiters are so professionals & smart all the time. We ordered their famous suckling pig & lamb shanks that we enjoyed a lot. The atmosphere was pleasant but in my opinion to crowded!
