“Different - but a great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Well recommended by Trip Advisor reviewers, and rightly so. A nondescript frontage - the sort of place you would walk by if you didn't know better. Inside is small and quite basic - but immediately friendly. The owner translated and explained every menu item with us. There were four courses to choose from, and they were served up one at a time on a single plate for the four of us to share. Our first choice was guacamole with plantain chips, second was orange and honey salad, third was octopus in a creamy sauce and fourth was sliced rolled pork. They were all totally delicious and full of flavours. We finished with a dessert each, I had mojito green sorbet - knockout !
Service and food top-notch. All for 115 euros for four people including 2 bottles of wine.
Don't go to Madrid without going to this charismatic restaurant.

“Fantastic meal”

Creative but simple tapas. One of the best meals weve had in a long time. New twists on traditional dishes. Exceptional owner explained menu in english for both the carnivore and the vegetarian

“A Gem in Madrid”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Our last night in Madrid and came here after reading the reviews on trip advisor and chowhound. Difficult to locate (we walked) and when we did find it were not sure if we had arrived at the right place (small, few tables etc..). Luckily we decided to stay. We immediately hit it off with the owner (I'm a little bit of a foodie) and when we mentioned we have a house in Miami Beach and that one of our favorite restaurants there is Pub Belly, turns out the owner of Pub Belly is one of his best friends....well the night was made. The food is exceptional, tapas portions easily shared between two people. Unique though is the Chefs modern interpretation of classical Castillian and Catalonian dishes. The guacamole/bananas..wonderful way to start the dinner, the croqueta boletus (light and creamy, beautifully fried), the pulpo plancha (nicely prepared and very delicate) and finally the pincho de secreto...just wish we could have had more. To top it off the people at the table next to us had the mejillones and thet were so enthusiastic that we had to try them (despite my dislike for mussels). Phenomenal, couldn't leave a drop of the sauce behind. We ate too much but despite the abundance of food the bill wea very reasonable,90 euro. Can't say enough of the owner, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, friendly, someone I'd like to meet again, hopefully soon at the Taberna.
