We stayed at the Bristol for 1 night only in Nov 2007. We were due to attend a wedding at the Elliott Hotel, but couldnt get in there as there were a number of wedding guests ( from other weddings as well as the one we were attending) staying there.

We went to Tourist Information as we arrived in Gib and they gave us the information about the hotels. We opted for the Bristol in the end as it was the nearest to where we wanted to be.

On being given our key we tried to find our way up to the room. It was a nightmare.. As another reviewer has said, the corridors are like a warren, and it doesn't help that the lift has two opening sides to it, so you get confused as to which side you want to be out of.. The reserved parking spaces outside the hotel were very convenient and a massive plus for anyone staying there.. We visit Gibraltar about once a month and know how bad the parking is!!

The decor of the place is generally very dark/dowdy/depressing. Bed linen has seen better days ( some time ago!) and the rooms are generally in need of a massive overhaul.

On a positive note, the staff were friendly enough. We cant comment on breakfast as our rate was room only, so we ate out for breakfast.
If you get stuck, you are OK in this hotel.. but dont expect too much and you wont be disappointed!

We had to leave our cruise on QM2 due to my father in laws heart attack, the Bristol was a haven for one night while we arranged a cheaper long term appartment .
The hotel was a bit of a rabbit warren and our rooms were situated on different levels.
The staff were fantastic and couldn't help us enough to overcome our situation and even offered advice about alternative Gibraltar accommodation nearer the hospital.

“great hotel”

I have just returned from a trip to Gibraltar and stayed at the Bristol Hotel. I took a party of seven young gymnasts out to take part in a competition.I have nothing but praise for the hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean with maid service every day, a fridge in the room and a kettle was supplied when we asked. The breakfast was the norm as in most hotels toast, cereal, yogurt, fruit juice etc and there was plenty to go round and always somewhere to sit.The swimming pool was small but great for the kids and easy enough to keep an eye on them and it was always very clean. The hotel had a very traditional and welcoming feel to it and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The Bristol Hotel is in a fantastic position to explore Gibraltar from,I will stay there again and recommend this hotel to anyone. We all had a great time and the Gibraltan people are all so friendly

“Worst hotel ever”

Bristol Hotel

We stayed at the Bristol Hotel recently and found it the worst experience ever. Having paid £80 for 1 night (not including breakfast) we were expecting more than a cold room. We asked for a double but got a twin, with no fridge or closet/drawers. It was actually comical and very much like Faulty Towers!

Just returned from Gibraltar and had been recommended this hotel for its location which indeed cannot be bettered. I agree with all the comments made previously. The hotel is a very old building which has been converted in a haphazard manner by erecting lots of partitioning. It is dark, not helped by the carpets, but overall quite clean. The staff are indeed very friendly and one Lady even gave up her car park space for us on our arrival. The hotel has six spaces outside the building reserved for its guest, but after they are full its a nightmare to find anywhere. The bathrooms are pokey, a bit scruffy but work okay. The breakfast is adequate if limited and uninspiring, but hey at that price what can you expect. There are lots of restaurants close by which do a 'full English' if that is your wish. Close to the hotel there is a square where mini bus drivers tout for passengers for Rock Tours. We took one of these at £16 each and it was a great two hour trip with a very knowledgeable driver. We saw it all and then shopped. Two nights is definately enough time to do Gibraltar and have a very enjoyable time, but only if you go with an open mind.
