“Roll back time in Gibraltar.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

Bristol Hotel, is in the heart of Gibraltar, which is ideal for a short stay. Reasonable prices for a Town Centre property. The hotel and decor is somewhat dated, but all areas are clean and fairly well maintained for such an old building. Rooms are a bit basic but for the money ok. Could do with tea/coffee making in the rooms, but no plastic undersheets and my bed didn't creak, but he passageways and stairs do,but to me this adds character.Breakfast (continental) was eat as much as you want and good quality to choose from. Getting there is also in character ie go outside and get wet, or cross the minor side street to the separate building by a glass sided bridge (up and over) quirky. No complaints for a 3* ageing property.

Room Tip: Cannot advise on this point apart from 308 is a lot larger than 309. Both overlooking the street, bu...

Where else outside of Great Britain would you get 1970’s timber panelling throughout, squeaky beds, full plastic mattress covers and the old English guest, but in this little pierce of England called Gibraltar.

Plastic mattress protectors you ask? Yep you wake every time to roll over or move from the squeaky bed and/or the crinkling plastic protector. Perhaps the plastic mattress covers reflects the average age of the guests and their nightly habits?

The hotel claims to have internet access in the lounge, well, they do, just make sure that someone doesn’t get on “their” Skype and ring someone; it will suck every bit out of the internet access and leave you stranded until they finish. Multiple WIFI internet users seem OK but they have to upgrade their service or ban Skype.

Rooms: There is no internet access in the rooms. The room is air conditioned but boy where did they get it, looked more like a water cooler and worked rather inefficiently. I can’t say how well it would work on a hot day/night. The bathroom was small, had a strange fit out, and in the morning we were welcomed by a cockroach.

The lounge area is quite attractive (hasn’t changed for 50 years) as is the swimming pool area.
They have a breakfast room but we didn’t use it.

We arrived late so didn’t hunt around for prices nut at 95 Pounds for a double room, seemed to be expensive for what we got.

They did provide car parking for us which was gratefully received. Thank you.

An experience probably worth laughing about because it wasn’t a disaster, just old fashioned. I think the plastic mattress cover and the air conditioning were the very worst features.

Unless the rest of Gibraltar is in a time warp I would look for somewhere else or unless you can get the price down to sub 60 pounds .

I had my first trip to Gib in early October with family friends and I'm pleased to say the Bristol played a vital part in my holiday. Fantastic location, breakfast - no complaints, eat as much as you like, yes it was basic, but it was the Bristol and not the Hilton, so you get what you pay for. £290 for 5 days, flights included! The staff were friendly and helpful and we had a good laugh with those that were doing the night shift when we would return in the early hours. Yes the decor is out dated, but more importantly the rooms were clean, the bedding and bath towels were clean and fresh. I would certainly stay there again, although if I could spare the cash I would like to experience a stay in the Rock. I had a fantastic time in Gib with my friends, the Bristol is now a part of those memories.

Room Tip: If you stay at the front of the hotel, you will get a fab view of the Rock and can see the cable car...

Surprised by some of the comments , this is a 3* hotel as as such you get what you pay for . We stayed for 3 nights and found the staff friendly and helpful at all times , Breakfast is fairly basic but perfectly acceptable , room although dated was clean with fresh towel change every day, Perfectly located for the town , so lack restaurant wasn't an issue as loads of places to eat within a five or 10 minute walk , would stay here again next time we visit Gib

We have just received a refund for the cost of staying at the Bristol after a protracted case regarding our early departure from the hotel because of the dirty conditions there. After 2 nights of staying at this nightmare hotel my wife and I walked out - never to return. The room we had was dirty and the carpet was festering to say the least. It has been a subject of dispute what caused the insect bites on my wifes body during the 2 nights we stayed there.

The so-called breakfast buffet is appalling with food left to fester in the breakfast rooms for days.

The one star relates to the hotel's location.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - it is dirty and outdated.

Copied the last review as it says just what i want to say, After spending a morning visiting family we thought that we would relax by the pool with a beer, only to be told that the bar is closed between 2 and 5. While sitting round the pool I was bitten more than a dozen times the whole area is a disgrace. Disgustingly dirty hotel with tiny rooms and the most uncomfortable beds. Dusty, filthy room with a broken tv.
The poolbar is filthy, the barmaid the rudest person you will ever meet, and the toilets are repulsive.
Yes its cheap, but I wouldn't stay here again if it was free.
Shockingly bad.

Room Tip: This is a good location, bus services are good and nearby, but although its dirt cheap to stay here...
