Just returned from Gibraltar and had been recommended this hotel for its location which indeed cannot be bettered. I agree with all the comments made previously. The hotel is a very old building which has been converted in a haphazard manner by erecting lots of partitioning. It is dark, not helped by the carpets, but overall quite clean. The staff are indeed very friendly and one Lady even gave up her car park space for us on our arrival. The hotel has six spaces outside the building reserved for its guest, but after they are full its a nightmare to find anywhere. The bathrooms are pokey, a bit scruffy but work okay. The breakfast is adequate if limited and uninspiring, but hey at that price what can you expect. There are lots of restaurants close by which do a 'full English' if that is your wish. Close to the hotel there is a square where mini bus drivers tout for passengers for Rock Tours. We took one of these at £16 each and it was a great two hour trip with a very knowledgeable driver. We saw it all and then shopped. Two nights is definately enough time to do Gibraltar and have a very enjoyable time, but only if you go with an open mind.

“Bristol regular”

I stay at the Bristol every year and book with Thompson as I get a good rate for the flight from Gatwick and a good room rate. The hotel is very centrally located in Cathedral Square and the rooms are clean and comfortable - if not luxurious or particularly modern. The staff are friendly and courteous and they remember their regulars. The breakfast is adequate. Morrisons supermarket do a good value full English. It is easy to walk to everywhere in Gib from the hotel and the blue buses that stop outside are frequent and cheap - a day pass is very good value.
Drink and cigarettes are very cheap and in Gib and there is no discrimination against smokers. The Thursday tour around Gib and up onto the rock is very good value £12 and a lot of fun and the World War II tunnels are well worth a visit.
Overall I like going to Gib for a relaxing break once a year for about 3-4 days.
Overall the Bristol and Gib are good value for money for a short break

the staff are friendly, speak english. the hotel is basic. breakfast is very basic, cereal, juice, toast, croissants, cold boiled eggs and sliced ham! no coffee facilities in the room, does have sky tv, small pool, cross a road for breakfast/bar/pool. but overall its a nice place. a few simple touches and it would make it better. there is also a pub around the corner called the angry friar. brill food and cheap. excellant service there.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights only, and overall it was a very average experience. The feel is dark and dated, especially the rooms; I stayed in a single which was tiny, with a view of an adjacent wall.

Breakfast is a cold collation and sparse consisting of breads, cereals, yoghurts, tea & coffee etc.in a comparitively small room; which is actually situated in an annexe adjacent to the hotel itself.

Plus points are that it is fairly good value for money as it is very centrally located in the heart of Main Street. Also I found that all staff were friendly and helpful.

Fine for a night or two.....but will not impress your other half.
