“Bristol Hotel, Gibraltar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

I came home Friday night after week long stay at the Bristol Hotel. I don't know why many people complain about this hotel. It's a nice hotel, all the staff are so friendly and can't help you enough. Rooms are cleaned every day. Lifts open both sides, just need to look on wall in front of you and you will see which side your room number is on. Breakfast is continental but was ok. All we needed to do is get a travel kettle. Would recommend this hotel. So now you know, go and enjoy Gibraltar.

The Bristol Hotel was packaged up with Easyjet when I booked some flights with them. Considering I was treating 2 others to a 3/4 day break in Gibraltar I needed to buy reasonable so to speak. Have got to say and in total honesty, it is a wonderful little hotel and comes with staff who are among the most friendly I have come across! Yes I agree, the decor is rather dated and tired looking but it was clean and the bedrooms, although fairly small, were maintained and cleaned everyday by a very helpfull and polite room attendant. The breakfast is poor mans continental...as in toast/croissants,lean ham, cheese and cold boiled eggs as well as cornflakes/frosties cereal and assorted juices....but then when one weighs up the rates of accomodation including breakfast...hey...an extremely good value for money hotel!
I would reccommend that you take a travel kettle and mug with you as over the years this hotel has had them stolen from the rooms and this I do believe as i have friends who stayed there years ago and kettles were def in the rooms then...so take one, get some supplies from the breakfast bar and Roberto is your tio!!! Great little pool area too..small but does the trick!
Another plus for this place is the location location location...you want Gib? You get it right there..no taxis, no expense.....tis also one of the quietest hotels I have stayed in. Would love to throw some money at it but in these times, I am not surprised that they can't invest especially charging so little compared to other htels in the vicinity.
Anyway..enough said...just to let you know my pedigree as a world traveller...I am currently diamond plus member with Royal Carribean Int. Ex travel agent, a business woman who travels up to 10 weeks of the year around the Globe and some one who has been lucky enough to stay at the Grand in Brighton, Paris, The savoy, London...to name a couple and let me tell you the staff here could teach a polite thing or two to those fancy establishments!
enough said...enjoy!!

Room Tip: Ask them for spare pillows as the pillows are very slim..also pay the extra and get a room with a vi...

Pretty much as above, agree with the other reviews in that the room was not the cleanest but i think it was more that it was old and dated. We had a cleaner in every day with clean towells, bed made etc and everything worked and we had no problems with anything eg air con, fridge, lights, shower, water, bed was comfy and the room was big enough. I just thought that it was old fashioned, dark had strange layouts and generally weird and wonderful, in a european way, not really what you'd expect from a hotel with a British name like 'Bristol'. I would recommend this hotel if you want to be in the middle of everywhere and are planning to walk to most places in the city, it was perfect for that and definately saved us a lot of money on taxis in the evening. Remember that this is a 3 star hotel and its 69 quid a night, if your looking for cheap accomodation to sleep and get ready for a few days holiday mostly spent wandering the rock then this is fine. Maybe if we'd have been going for a longer holiday i might have bothered to look up some of the more expensive hotels no doubt with better views, modern rooms and a greater variety of breakfast items

We spent two nights in the Bristol hotel in Gibraltar in June. I have stayed in worse hotels but they were all in the third world. If you want a third world experience without leaving Europe, this is the place. Our shower didn't work properly and despite having a whole working day to fix it, it still wasn't working when we left. On arrival the fridge wasn't working either but they changed that. We were in this hotel on the hottest weekend so far this year and the air conditioning was pitifully inadequate. We spent the entire night without being able to sleep. They offered to change our room because of the shower but only had interior rooms available and with the heat we declined. The final straw was the cockroach which greeted us from the toilet seat in the morning. Other people had complained while we were there and got short shrift from the management so we decide to call it quits and leave. I wouldn't reccomend this hotel to my worst enemy.

Room Tip: try a different hotel

My partner and I were getting married on the 25th June 2012 and as we do not know Gibraltar we asked where the nearest hotel was to the registry office. Our marriage was at 10.30 in the morning so we thought it would be a good idea to be nearby. We were advised that the nearest hotel ( about 100yds from the registry office) was the Bristol.
The building is quite impressive from the outside and reception area clean and reasonably modern. We were bringing two witnesses so we booked two double rooms for the night of the 24th and asked if it was possible to have sea views- we were assured that this would present no problem - we made the mistake of not asking to see the rooms before booking.
When we arrived on the 24th it was quite late and both our friends and ourselves were tired.
What a shock when we saw our rooms!
Views of a rendered wall for both of us - no sea view in sight. Rooms very dark and dingy - badly in need of refurbishment and redecoration. The bathroom was a throw back to the 60's -with Formica covered walls;there were electrical sockets which didn't work; I was unable to put on my make up in the bathroom ( no window, no air- too hot) and to try to do make up at the dressing table impossible because of the bad lighting. The mattress had some sort of rubber/ plastic covering which made for a very uncomfortable night's sleep.
For us it would have been lovely to have breakfast in our room - this was not an option and only continental breakfast was on offer anyway. No tea or coffee making facilities, grubby carpet (certainly didn't want to walk around bare foot in the bedroom) inadequate air- con - room was very stuffy. Only one socket near the TV and dressing table so you had to choose between the TV or light or hairdryer etc. Radio broken . No information in the bedrooms re facilities of the hotel, how to contact reception , how to work the TV or anything in the room.
All in all a bit of a disaster and we were very embarrassed that we had inflicted this on our friends. We didn't dare test the breakfast - we got up at eight and went to a local cafe then back to the hotel to get ready.
On a more positive note the staff seemed pleasant and reasonably helpful and the marriage service was perfect. We plan to stay in Gibraltar again but definitely not at the Bristol!

This hotel is in an excellent location for main st. The pool and bar area is very nice and I have to say the bar prices are good. Overall it is clean and the towels were new and very soft. We had a double (triple) room which was a good size but the twin room was very small. It was very hot and the air conditioning could have been better than a unit. A fridge was in the room but no safe (maybe in reception?). The downside was breakfast with limited choice, milk that was long life and not cold and a small seating area. The milk in the small pots had curdled as the fridge was not closed at breakfast or cold enough. The floor needed a good mop. However overall would probably stay again if the price was right.

The Bristol Hotel in Gibraltar may not be the plushest on the Rock but it the most conveniently located. It is at the end of Main Street next to the Anglican Cathedral and is perfect for shopping trips to the Rock for those who like me live in Spain. One of its best assets is the fact that whenever we have travelled to Gib we have always found a place to park right outside the hotel, a premium in crowded Gib. The staff are extremely helpful and very friendly. We have now been using the Bristol every y6 months for some 8 years and will cintinue to do so.

Room Tip: Try for an outside facing room above the second floor, try to avoid the rooms over the hotel entranc...
