“The view is worth the walk up!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

We took the small tracks and roads to the top of the Upper Rock. 45 min from Elliot Hotel and we found ourselves at the top of the cable car. Do this in the morning and you walk in the shade all way up. Fantastic view once you reach the "summit". Apes on the road is a bonus. Take the road via the ape den and the midevil stairs back to town, You will arrive back just the Elliot hotel and Mainstreet. All worth it, up and down in less than 2 hours - ready for some lunch.

“Apes scare children”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

While visiting Gibraltar for the day with my 3 children and our Spanish friend we were excited to visit the apes. We paid over £40 to take the 6 min cable car to the top. On arriving we were horrified as a large ape can straight into the cable car and reached into the bottom if the buggy where our 17 month old daughter was sitting. It grabbed our sandwiches. Out Spanish friend tried to intervene as she was told not to touch the monkey invade it tore into her arm. Our 8 year old son and 5 year old daughter were horrified and distraught. As we left the cable car another ape came and grabbed the remaining food. We spent the next 10 minutes tentatively taking a few pics of the spectacular views whilst keeping a close eye on the monkeys. Another ape came to unzip our back pack and pulled out nappies and wipes. We of course understand that bringing food was a bad idea but nope warned us and having a baby was very scary. We hardly had 10 minutes on the rock then came straight back down. It was the worst part of our whole week and gave the children nightmares. I really would not recommend this with children. Stay away.

“Bewere, they can bite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

I would advise seeing the apes as part of an organised tour, as you may feel safer and get good info on many of the apes. Our guide, Douglas, could even inspect the apes, and they searched his pockets for food. they can become nervous, especially around their babies, so be careful, and move slowly.
but they are the star attraction on Gibraltar

“Visiting the Apes”

I guess you just have to do this. Best option is to use one of the many taxis as they stop at all the sights and are reasonably priced.
