“Basic but cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2014

Just stayed for 4 nights. Excellent location and cheapest hotel in Gibraltar. Rooms very basic and old but clean. Bed was far to soft for my liking so couldn't sleep properly but that is a personal preference. This place is closer to a hostel than a hotel. Breakfast is small (don't ask for crispy bacon as that is impossible, just met with a quizzical look) but if you wanted more there is a good pub doing cracking food round the corner. To sum up, if you want a very basic room in an ideal location this is exactly what you get here.

Centrally located and clean. Is one step up from staying in a hostel and you do get the cooked breakfast each day, served with a smile. Please note though if you arrive for breakfast after 9:30 you will have to ask that all things be replenished as this is not monitored once put out for the morning - milk, juice, cereal, fresh coffee. The street noise is quite high and I would suggest ear plugs. We had ensuite which to our suprise given the decor of the rooms (quite dated), the showers were very good - pleny of hot water and good pressure. Our friend had a bathroom adjoining and shared with other rooms, didn't have any issues with this.

Stayed 2 nights - booked last minute so took what was left.
Room - very basic but clean and beds were comfy.
No en-suite - bathroom at the end of the corridor regularly cleaned so no complaints.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Situation right in the centre of town.

Overall if you want a low cost room to get your head down for the night, right in the heart of town this hotel is perfect. Can be a bit noisy from the street, but that's what you get in the heart of town. No bells and whistles, but that is portrayed in the cost. If you want luxury this is not for you, if you want basic home comforts the Cannon is spot on. Make sure you check the room is en-suite if a private bathroom is a must. Full English Breakfast is included - again friendly service and freshly cooked. Almost any option is catered for from simple tea and toast to the works.
We have stayed in the 4 star hotels on Gibraltar, happily paying the price, but this way we had more to spend in the shops, restaurants and bars. Next time we visit Gibraltar (and we do so often) we will stay in the Cannon.

Room Tip: No lift and all rooms upstairs. Make sure you ask for a private bathroom if this is important.

I stayed here for a total of 3 nights when using Gibraltar Airport. It is centrally located just off the main shopping area.
The Hotel is great value for money as other hotels are more than 3 times the cost in similar location, but the decor is dated & some rooms are not en-suite so it is what it is.

I would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Get a room with a bed in it would help..

I have stayed here numerous times during the past 11 years and I have to say that value for money this hotel will not disappoint! Best of all it's very centrally located to everything which is very convenient. Staff/owners are 'very friendly' and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Rock was enjoying a very busy time , and myself and some colleagues really struggled to find some accommodation for a recent visit
Thankfully the staff at The Cannon were able to help
whilst it is very much a budget establishment , all the staff were friendly and helpful . The rooms were a little small , but if you were on a tight budget , then the Cannon is the place to go
The breakfast was superb , freshly cooked to order , and very tasty

Thank you to all at The Cannon for your help in making our visit possible it was much appreciated

Room Tip: There are an assortment of rooms here , maybe a good discussion at time of booking would ensure one...

We have stayed at the Cannon several times this year, everyone friendly and helpful. Hotel is well positioned in the town centre "not noisy".

Rooms comfortable but basic however, excellent value for the price also includes full English Breakfast.
