“weekend break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

This was a four star hotel but in my opinion I would not rate it higher than a two/three star, we did arrive a little early for checking in so were told to wait in the bar until the room was cleaned where somebody would come and get us, this never happened, after going to reception a couple of times asking about the room, it was ready to use two hours later with no apologies for the wait from any of the staff on reception we carried our cases up and down so many steps i felt id walked miles and my arms looked like an orangutan's, the room was functional nothing more although you could pick holes (like the cigarette burn in our top bed cover) or the broken bath plug, glue around the toilet handle, the broken tiles,
basically the room was in need of a little maintenance as were other parts of the hotel i suppose it looked a little shabby, on the plus side it was cleaned very well and the sea view was lovely and you could access the beach from the hotel via more steps, the buffet breakfast was fine, but we found the hotel restaurant nunos was over priced and a little pretentious, you can walk into the town centre in around 30/40 minutes which is downhill, we took the bus back £1.50 single per person, the taxis seem to differ in price from town even though they all had meters £5 to £6 approx. single trip, the only person we found really friendly and helpful was a chap called Gabor so to sum up we would say it is overpriced for what you get, and if you have walking difficulties this hotel does have a lot of staircases to negotiate although it does have a lift but apparently not to our part of the hotel, my advice would be to get a five star hotel for the same price just over the border and have a day trip in Gibraltar.

Room Tip: take a ride in the cable car to the top of the rock the views are fantastic, plus the boat trip to s...

We recently returned for a short break at the Caleta Hotel. This was our first stay at this hotel as we usually stay at the Rock hotel for our two or three short breaks every year in Gib. I have to say that we were impressed with the hotel. Our room, a deluxe sea view was spacious and comfortable with a very nice bathroom with his and hers sinks, and a lovely powerful shower. The best bit though was a nice big balcony and as other reviewers have stated, you think you are actually over the sea, terrific! Eating options are also very good. We went down for breakfast every day at about 9 o'clock and there were plenty of table, a good selection from the buffet with staff continuously walking around filling up tea/coffee cups. This rates better than the Rock hotel, where, in our experience, if you turn up for breakfast at 9 you invariably have to wait for a table and the service can be a little chaotic. We had dinner one night at one of the lounge tables and the food and service was very good. Before we arrived we thought that its location would be a slight problem (we like the Rock hotel's location) but it was fine with the bus stop right outside. The No. 4 bus runs at 30 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour and on the hour. As we are of a certain age! we purchased a senior hoppa ticket for £1.20 which gives you unlimited travel for that day. All in all a very nice stay at the Caleta, but for us the big question is which hotel do we prefer the Caleta or the Rock Hotel? Each hotel has a completely different atmosphere but we think we will take it in turns in future for our short breaks. We are returning to the Rock hotel next month (it will be interesting to see how the renovations are going on) and shall shortly book a 5 night stay at the Caleta for next May.
We always book through mygibraltar.com which offers very good package prices.
One more thing, there is a lovely little restaurant called the Village Inn just down from the hotel accessible through the hotel's pool area and on the beach promenade. Very good food and service, not at all posh! but but very pleasant.

Excellent hotel our room overlooking the sea, with the sun rising each morming whilr we sit on the balcony. Walk down the hotel steps and you are on a beautfull beach. The food in the bar serves wonderful snacks. The food in numos rest is a bit expensive. There is a regular bus service into the centre of town. We would stay again

Room Tip: Aways ask for a sea view and one that overlooks the beach

A really good hotel which is in art deco style. Our room, although not large, was well appointed and comfortable. While we were there there was a violent storm but our room was warm and cozy.
The position of this hotel is a little away from the action but perched on a rock above the bay it offers some wonderful views and there is a lovely sandy beach beneath it, which, alas due to the weather, we didn't try. There is a small outdoor pool at the hotel which, again, went unused while we were there.

There is a good bus service round to the main part of the rock and the bus stop is almost right outside the hotel. We found a lovely restaurant just along the road from the hotel which also had wonderful views of the bay. Unfortunately I am unable to remember its name.

Room Tip: Sea view a must otherwise your view will be the side of the rock!

We have just returned from my 60th birthday celebrations, which we chose to do in Gibraltar at the Caleta Hotel. For some of us it was a second visit and we love it here so did not hesitate to recommend it to the rest of our family. Our rooms were all seaview, clean and well furnished with plenty of wardrobe space. There is air conditioning or a ceiling fan if you prefer. The hotel is a bit quirky so if you like clinical spaces this probably wouldn't suit you. The terrace bar area offers drinks and food. When you ask for drinks, a bowl of crisps and olives is also brought as part of the service. The food is fine, nothing fancy and some seems better value for money than others, for instance the fish and chips was very good but the beef skewers only offered a small portion.
I would thoroughly recommend the Caleta Hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a seaview room

with The Rock enjoying a very busy time with regard to available accommodation , a group of us struggled over a planned 11 night visit to The Rock to get accommodation
We were able to stay in the Apartments for 5 nights which was great
The rooms were very well presented , spacious balcony area . Good functioning air con in both the bedroom with separate unit in the sitting room area
All in all an excellent hotel
Staff very pleasant and helpful , and the Restaurant Staff serving breakfast were always efficient and polite
A mention should go to Reception staff Clara and Sam who made our stay possible with some juggling of bookings etc

Much appreciated

Room Tip: If you stay here perhaps a room with sea view would be best

Gibraltar is a great place for a short break and the Caleta Hotel certainly makes part of that break enjoyable.
I stayed here recently following a holiday in Spain and was impressed by the warm welcome by the reception staff on arrival, something hard to find on your travels these days!
This theme seemed to be the trend at this hotel with all staff from bar to restaurant being very welcoming and accommodating.
The Hotel itself is a little worn at the edges but this seems to add a little more charm, but the rooms are spacious with fantastic sea views as the hotel is built in to the rock directly above the sea giving the impression that you are on a cruise ship . Bedrooms although a little dated and probably due refurbishment are spotlessly clean with comfortable beds, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar, safe and tv. Plenty of wardrobe space, clean towels and toiletries make for a comfortable stay.
I can recommend the restaurant and advise booking as it seems very popular with guests and locals and can be very busy. This is obviously due to the quality of the food and service along with the fantastic sea views .It is also very reasonably priced for the standard of food on offer.

Breakfast in the morning is continental and adequate you can pay for a hot cooked English breakfast as extra if you choose. Once again the staff are very welcoming and helpful with tables cleared quickly, and of course nice sea views while you dine.
There is a Bus stop directly outside which will take you in to Casemates Terminus and on return stops a little before the hotel or a little after, just ask the Driver where to get off if you are a little concerned. Reception will call a Taxi if you prefer fare around £5 one way depending on time of day. This is similar to the fare from the airport or return which varies from around £6 to £8 once again reception will arrange allow 15 to 30 minutes when calling for one.

Room Tip: Sea view is best
