“4 Star hotel which is more 2 Star like”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

I arrived with my family for a weekend stay, initial room offered was damp (as clearly seen in the walls) and the furnishings were dated. After complaining to the front desk, I got the room changed, although smaller it was at least not a health hazard. The whole hotel is in severe need of refurbishment in particular the rooms, the common areas are kept in a reasonable condition, but the outside needs a good lick of paint. I have no complaints about the staff, we went to the Nunos restaurant on the first evening, food was very good and the service too.

The hotel describes itself as a 4 star, I'm sorry to say this is more like a 2 star at bes. This hotel could be so much better with some investment

Room Tip: Sea View rooms have an excellent view, try and avoid a room on the ends, although bigger, mine had a...

I've stayed at Caleta Hotel a few times now and always enjoyed my rooms, couldn't get a better sea view. Spacious room with tea, coffee, robes, slippers and toiletries provided. Bed clean and comfortable, mini fridge well stocked and spacious wardrobe.
room clean but a few rust marks on bath and shower curtain seemed a little worn and old. Continental breakfast ok but could do with some whole fresh fruit and if you wanted a cooked English breakfast then this costs about £14 extra. Had a lovely meal in Caleta's restaurant but pricey to eat there every night.
Beach had lots of lovely shells on it and there are about 4 places to drink and eat along the beach although very quiet this time of year.
Bus stops right outside hotel £1.50 for all day ticket you can use on any bus. walk into the town takes about 20-30 mins. the walk the opposite way towards Europa point was blocked off due to fallen rocks. Apes can be seen nearby the hotel.
I came with my family for the weekend then stayed by myself the rest of the week on business and we all enjoyed our stay.
Staff were friendly and helpful and I would certainly come here again

Room Tip: Get a sea view, book through mygibraltar.com as cheaper than direct with the hotel

We went to this hotel with Gala Bingo, we had a lovely time, sea view room, food was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated at the foot of the rock and the views are spectacular, the only downfall is that there are no lifts and all the rooms are either down stairs or upstairs, no ground floor rooms, so not very good for anyone disabled.

Just returned after four day stay. Hotel very clean, however the bathroom could do with a little refurbishment around the bath and the shower screen replaced with a shower curtain for easier access. Our room had exceptional views of the sea only marred by the attrocious weather. Breakasts and two evening meals we had were of the highest standard.
The hotel is located in a wonderful position at the foot of the Rock giving panoramic views across the Med over to North Africa, clearly visible on a good day.
We would certainly return to The Caleta given the opportunity.

The staff are friendly and the food was o.k. The sunrise view from our room was spectacular, however as we were walkin with no reservations we were charged 190 pounds sterling for one night. Not what I considered value for the room in question.

Stayed 2 nights during business trip to Gibraltar.
The hotel is situated on east side of Gib with great views out to the Med.
The room was a average size with sufficient supplies of tea/coffe etc, but only 1 spare electrical plug.
TV very small with limited channels.
Room was nice and clean, but looking in need of update.
Staff OK, not going out of their way to be friendly or helpful.
The place has a run down feel as if nobody cares.
To get into Gibraltar town is 20 mins walk or bus ride, which leaves from close to Hotel.
I would not recommend eating here, food was disapointing and dreadful service.
Does not warrent 4 stars.

Room Tip: Even number rooms face east and have sea view. Keep balcony door closed at night as apes often walk...

We returned to this hotel after a number of years following problems at another hotel in Gibraltar but wished we hadn't. On booking in we were greeted with a fairly surly attitude and given the minimum of information from a mental script. Our initial reaction on opening the door to our room was very favourable - good size with a large balcony with a view over Catalan Bay and, of course, the sea.. However as soon as we stepped in we were aware of a very unpleasant smell. After walking around the room we suspected that the problem was in the carpet and was a result a dampness. We mentioned the matter to reception a number of times but at no time were we given a response without asking again. The first suggestion was that it was a paint smell following recent re-painting, damp -v- paint?? They promised to look into it again but no solution found and as the hotel was fully booked they could not offer another room but would seek to do so the following day if we wanted to move. Again we heard nothing and as it was a short break we suffered the problem. Another annoying features of the room were:
* the very short bath (although it was deep)
* balcony furniture consisting of two small cane chairs and a small table (we remembered this furniture from some 15 years earlier!
* the hotel switches on external floodlights at night that dramatically illuminated the room and it was not possible to prevent this illumination.
Other aspects that were not good:
* Breakfast - served in a pleasant restaurant area with a panoramic sea view but with over effective air conditioning; the continental meal was, at best, OK, with a reasonable choice but with tea & coffee served out of flasks
* Nunos (in-house Italian restaurant) - didn't try the food as there was a £20 minimum food charge per person - would have been costly for a plate of pasta.
* Bar - very pleasant on first impressions and well used but when we attempted to have a night cap we were greeted with a table full of dirty glasses and dirty plates. After waiting to be offered a drink for about ten minutes, with no acknowledgement of our presence, we gave up.
We will not be returning.
