“Relaxing Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2011

Lovely old hotel ideally situated on quiet side of the Rock away from the Town area. We had a Double Room with Sea View and Balcony, tea and coffee making facilities which were replenished daily. Staff were efficient and polite. Internet access was free, a lot of hotels usually make a charge for this facility.

There is a Free Tourist Bus No 4 which runs every 20 minutes and stops right outside the hotel and takes you into the Town area for shopping and brings you back again.

Room Tip: Sea view rather than Rock view.

Check in staff were efficient but, the bar staff were rude and obnoxious. The rooms were dated in that the heating didnt work, the fan was more or less hanging off the ceiling, constantly dripping tap in bath, luke warm water, Good knows what wires were hanging from the back of the TV???.
Go into Main Street for breakfast as it costs £14 per person for an English breakfast and the food in general is a right royal rip off from a cost perspective.
The thing is the hotel is in a lovely location but, it needs fixing and some of staff need training in hospitality and friendliness.
Dont order a taxi as they charge a fortune. Either catch the free N04 bus which takes you to the centre of town or if the weather is nice, walk (20-25mins). Sometimes the wild apes come down from the rock so dont leave any balcony doors open :o)

We stayed at the Caletta ten years ago and were extremely pleased with our stay then. When we decided to return there this year and get married while we were there, our first choice was the Caletta again. I was starting to wonder if we had made the right decision after reading the reviews on trip advisor the week before we were due to go.

I needn't have worried, from the moment we arrived in reception the service was great and the hotel was just as we remembered it (a little tired looking from the outside maybe, but beautifully decorated throughout the lounge and dining areas).

We were in room 128, you have to go downstairs 2 floors to get there and we were a little worried by the long corridor, but were very pleased with our room, the view was excellent as was the little terrace. The room was a great size with a huge bed and a sofa bed made up for our 8 year old daughter.

We had room service every day ( I had read a review about 1 cleaner for the whole hotel?! but there were plenty that we saw each day and they were always very friendly and did a good job).

The food in the bar area was beautiful, we didn't try Nunos as it was lovely to just sit out on the terrace and eat there. We did eat out in town too and found some great restaurants and as long as you were ready to go back to the hotel before 9 pm (which we were) it was excellent to have free bus travel. The only time we had taxis was arriving and departing and on our wedding day. The great team on reception also recommended that we only book our taxi about ten minutes before we need it or you can be charged a booking fee of about £5! excellent advice which we would recommend to anyone.

We will definitely return.

A hotel you can live in. Amazing location perched right above the Mediterranean facing east. Quiet area away from the busy city, loney sand beach, nice restaurants, no wi-fi in room, but hotel is too nice to just stay inside your own room. An experience I'll never forget. 10/10

Spent a long weekend here in October 2011. A really nice hotel: the room was great, friendly service, unique location on quiet side of Gibraltar but easy to get into town on free bus. Only saw the negative reviews on tripadvisor after we got back and was really surprised to see them. Don't let them put you off!

I was moved here with a work colleague from The Rock in Town because of flooded rooms. Well it seems that the floods were in eveidence here also!! We were placed in the poorest rooms I would assume in the hotel on the bottom floor where the carpet in the corridor was soaking wet in places, huge patches of damp on the walls, paint peeling off with the stench of mildew and damp. Fortunately there was no wet carpet in the rooms or peeling paint. When we arrived (6 PM) there was no food availble from the kitchen except sandwiches, when these arrived the bread was stale, we didn't eat any further meals at the hotel except breakfast which although limited was OK. however, if you wanted something cooked it would cost you another £4 extra making breakfast £13.50 in total whether you had any cold buffet or not. We decided not to waste our money.

Most hotel staff seemed helpful enough although the waiting staff were pretty moody mostly bad! If I had been staying here on holiday I would have been extremely disappointed and I would have made sure I was moved from the bottom floor.

Other key things include: Not well located for town, you need to get a taxi home every night after going to a restaurant costing around £5. Free bus in the morning but these stop at 9 PM. It is on the wrong side of the rock for sun, facing east or maybe slightly south east, so I can't see that the pool outside would be that good. We didn't try the gym nor the treatment facilities. Bed was not comfy. Pillows 3 x foam, 1 x feather.

In summary, would not stay here again especially if I was paying! I think the star rating system needs to be checked if this is a 4 Star!!

Room Tip: Don't go on the bottom floor. Refuse if you are offered.

Booked in for 1 night in a de luxe room. Due to work commitments, I only arrived around 0330 in the morning.
Following happened:
First room 268 offered no furniture inside, room in preparation for redecoration.
Second room 114 offered while coming in and switch on the light, other occupants found asleep in bed.
Third room, 264 also not a deluxe room: bathroom not cleaned, paint smell from surrouniding rooms being redecorated and smell of rotten carpet too

Room Tip: Go for the Elliot hotel
