“Beautiful, comfortable and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We loved this hotel and it's location is so close for visiting the wonderful city of Santiago de Compostela on foot, which you basically have to do! Fabulous bedroom and bathroom, great food, bar and coffee shop. Interesting architecture incorporating ancient artefacts in the modern but sensitive refurbishment. Highly recommended.

Just what we needed after covering the best part of the Camino de Santiago, a touch of comfort blended with the character of a converted friary. We chose the upgrade option with Walks in Spain on Paul's recommendation and we were glad we did. A beautiful stone walled building with a maze of floors and corridors. What I would call an architectural nightmare! Comfortable spacious rooms and good sized bathrooms. A feast at the buffet breakfast to set you up for the day. In a great location just off the main square in the historical center.

Stayed in October for a weekend getaway, perfect location right around cathedral, great breakfast, nice old stone wall room with excellent bed, enjoyed the indoor swimming pool after a long walking day, despite having to walk outside to reach the pool building. Last but not least, the hotel staff recommended a great restaurant for dinner (O Dezaseis).
I recommend and will stay again if in Compostela.

stayed here after finishing my camino in november 2013. The staff were very helpful and spoke english. they provided me with a map of the surrounding area and pointed out the supermarkets, travel agencys and such. The room was great. had a double bed. large bathroom. the rest of the hotel was very nice as well. didn't get to use the pool as it was closed while i was there. but didn't plan on using it and they told me as i booked a room. has free wifi. only 200 meters if that from cathedral. all up a great hotel and very reasonably priced, will recomend to others and would stay again.

The San Francisco Hotel Monumento is located just behind Santiago's famous cathedral, in a converted Franciscan friary. It's quite simply very beautiful - old stone walls combined with modern glass and steel; very clean and comfortable rooms; characterful spaces for drinks, relaxing, and a stunning indoor swimming pool. The hotel seems like it's in a quiet corner, but actually it's very easy to walk from here to all the town's sites in just a few minutes. And you'll be glad that you're off the tourist track. Staff were good, breakfast was very tasty, but the main thing is that the hotel continues the beautiful, historic experience in being in this fascinating city.

The end of pilgrimage is for some a very big deal, hence the reward of staying in such a grand hotel comes as no surprise. The building is splendid and has an amazing atmosphere.
The room appointed with class and elegance. The staff in all areas very helpful and professional.
Didn't try their breakfast, however the night cup of tea served in courtyard is a moment to remember.

Room Tip: Get a floor map, some rooms are not so easy to find :-)

This hotel was recommended to me by a colleague and fulfilled or exceeded all expectations. A former monastery, it has been rebuild into an excellent modern hotel, while preserving original details. Beautiful wood floors and high wood ceilings. Parts of the ancient walls have not been plastered, reveiling the ancient walls of the building. I remember waking up thinking about the question whether there are perfect dimensions and aspect ratio's to a room. Which is kind of an answer in itself.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is great, with espresso or cappuccino made on order, and lots of dolce to go with it. I have had a conference dinner in the hotel in the magnificent old assembly hall, very impressive, and a business lunch in the restaurant. Good quality and reasonable prices.
The location is perfect 5 min walk to the cathedral.
The price of the room (November) 110€ per night including breakfast was well worth it.

Room Tip: My room was located on level 2B. Outside the room was a quiet and nice sitting area. I would probabl...
