When I arrived at Santiago de Compostela I was coming from a stay at a four stars Barcelona hotel that was chosen as best luxury in 2007 (and again in 2008), which was a huge deception ( the very first one I had with tripadvisor recommendations) to find out that Hotel Altair was the one that deserved the title!!!
Modern and yet cozy accomodations, wonderful and independent staff, every detail well cared for: I agree with almost all other reviewers, Hotel Altair is a four stars boutique hotel, disguised as a three one!
The young ladies at the reception go well beyond their duties to please the guests, you feel their attention and welcome every moment you meet them, any request is promptly attend to. You can tell they are happy working there, and this honnors the owners...
The breakfast is not a buffet one, but excellent in its simpliciy, quality, and comfort.
An astonishing, honest but improbable behaviour: as I was travelling with a friend who, due to health problems, eat very small meals, we usually were not taking breakfasts at hotels, but seeing the ones Hotel Altair was serving and its reasonable price, we decided to have it, and were surprised when, finishing it, we were told that hers would be charged as a half one, since she had eaten so little!
As a mature lady, I strongly recommend Hotel Altair to all who don't fancy great and impersonal international hotel chains!
