“Best hotel in 12 countries I visited”

Hotel Altair

Apr 22, 2008

I'm on my way back home from visiting 12 countries around the world. Time and time again when people ask me which place was most memorable, I say Santiago de Compostela and when they ask what it was about the town I liked, I say 'the medieval feel of the place' and then I add 'the hotel we stayed at'. I will add pictures to this review (if possible) later on but I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth that even now, 6 months after our stay at the Altair, the chic room, the delicious organic homemade breakfasts, the service, everything just stands out in my memory.

This is a superb hotel in a beautiful city. Small but perfectly formed the hotel is elegant, stylish and comfortable. The staff are excellent and the fine breakfast makes a perfect start to the day.

The hotel has our highest recommendation.

Altair is simply one of the nicest hotels I ever stayed (I travel a lot all over the world). The location is perfect and our room is exquisitely furnished, quiet and comfortable.
And about the staff...truly the best people in our trip.
I would higly recommend this magical place to anyone.

“Very Disapponited”

I actually choose to stay at this hotel after first looking at hotel reviews at tripadvisor, and I have used tripadvisor in the past with great success. I travel a lot and don’t have unreasonable expectations when I stay at a property because I realize few hotels are going to be perfect. The only thing nice about hotel was the lobby, and the only way to describe the room I paid almost $90 euros for was horrible. First the room was about the size of a walk in closet and could not have been more than 150 square feet including the bathroom. The room had no natural sunlight because the adjacent building was 2 feet away from our window. If you are claustrophobic this would not be the hotel room for you. The noise from other guest that could be heard through the room entry door and walls was incredibly loud. I complained about the room to the hotel and was told that particular room I received was really made for one person and they had no vacant rooms to give me and my wife. The hotel said they notify people about this particular room when it is booked that the accommodations are small, but I received no such warning when I booked the room and I booked the room for 2 people. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone just because you would never know till you get there which room you will be receiving and considering I booked the hotel 4 months in advance I should not have received this sub par room. I just feel the hotel was very dishonest when marketing this room and that is the reason I am writing my first ever review.

In Altaïr hotel we are always happy to know the opinion of our guests, it always helps us to improve and to work harder to give them a better service. In this particular occasion we of course thank our guest for his opinion, but would like to make a few explanations on his comments. The room was originally requested for one person and was asked to be double later on. As it was our only room remaining, it was offered to be used as double at a lower price than our normal standard room price of 105 + 7% VAT. We are perfectly conscious that the room given is the smallest of the hotel and also that it does not have a view, both things were explained to the person making the booking, who was different to the one complaining.
Also, in spite of being told that this was our only room remaining for that day and how the room was like, they were given the option on the very moment of the complaint to change to a new hotel. We told them we will take all the steps necessary to get them a new hotel room but they declined this offer. We are sorry for the incident, but sometimes we just run out of rooms and cannot offer to our guests another possibility than that of changing to a new hotel without any charge.
