“A perfect little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

This hotel was perfectly located on the Placa de la Font which is in the centre of the Old Town in Tarragona.

I arrived to the hotel quite late in the evening and had no issues with finding it, checking in and getting to my room. The rooms are quite simple but have all the essentials (en suite, tv, aircon...bed) and I definitely recommend booking a balcony room with a view of the Placa de la Font. You would think having a balcony would mean more noise but it was very quiet with the balcony door closed - no disruption at all. The only thing I would say is that some may find the bed a little small especially if sharing with someone - I think it is a double rather than a king or queen.

The staff are friendly and very helpful. I had no trouble with accessing the free WIFI (in the reception/restaurant only) and the staff were more than helpful when trying to sort out a broken plug adapter (unfortunately they didn't manage to find me one but that was only after ringing/speaking to local shops and searching the hotel!). Oh and don't worry if you come back to the hotel late in the evening to see it all 'locked up' - there is a porter on duty and will let you in.

The hotel itself is pretty small with a combined reception/bar/restaurant area with some tables outside (perfect in the warm weather and for people watching with a drink). It's furnished/decorated in a modern style (think perspex chairs and white 'leather' in the bar and chunky wicker furniture in the reception) and there is a nice touch to the rooms with the picture/painting of a part of the local area on the wall.

Being located on the Placa de la Font means you are in the hub of the Old Town - lots of bars, restaurants and cafes with people socialising all around the clock. You are also right in the middle of the area that contains the Roman ruins, sites and Cathedral; great for any sightseeing. Tarragona is quite small so you can navigate your way round pretty quickly after a few days.

One of the main reasons I booked a room here (apart from the location) was that the hotel was in the cheap end of the price spectrum but still ranked VERY high on the list of hotels for the area. I was very happy with my decision and will go back to this hotel on my own, with friends or family at some point.

I hope your stay is as good as mine - enjoy Tarragona!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony and view of the placa.

The location is all this entire place has going for it. At first glance you think, great. DON’T BE FOOLED. 1) The AC has a 4 hour timer, so if you sleep for more than 4 hours at a time your AC will turn off. 2) The bed felt like the mattress was plywood. 3) When I stayed there, construction was happening in the complex so every morning at 8 AM there was hammering on the wall of the headboard. 4) The cleaning staff took our personal wine glasses out of our room. 5) When I brought all of these issues up to the management at the front desk she had no interest at all. Don’t be fooled. NEVER AGAIN!

Room Tip: Book some where else!

This review is a bit overdue as I have now stayed at Placa de la Font three times when enjoying Tarragona's Festa Major, Santa Tecla.

The place is clean, well looked after and comfortable but it is the location more than anything that we enjoy. Pay the extra for a balcony room. During the Festa Major, many events happen on Placa de la Font so great birds-eye views can be obtained but when there's nothing happening it is rewarding just to stand on the balcony and watch Mediterranean life being lived. Another reviewer has observed that Tarragona is often overlooked and I would agree that this super little city has a lot to offer and Hotel Placa de la Font is an ideal place to start your discoveries.

Should you stay during the festival, about 15th - 25th September, be aware that the square can ger noisy and on the night of the Baixada de l'Aliga there will be bands and thousands of revellers arriving in the square between about 01:00 and 04:00 - but hopefully you will be with them.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms provide entertainment all day long.

Stayed here on our way down from France to Marbella. Absolute gem of a place. Completely central and facing a lovely plaza. I was concerned this might mean it was noisy but not at all. Had a peaceful night. There is parking in the underground carpark under the plaza. The streets around are extremely narrow and there is only one way in by car to the plaza. Check a map. Room was not huge but was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and nice. Plenty of places to eat all around the area and it is a stone's throw from Roman ruins and many shops. Would definitely return here.

Stayed here one on our way to Murcia. Great location but was a little hard to find. Parking is underground and hotel can not be seen from the street as it faces the plaza. Once we did find it we loved it. Great location with a balcony that looked out over the plaza. Room was a little small since we had 3 people but that seems to be the way of European rooms. Wireless worked well.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks out over the plaza.

Stayed at this hotel after checking out reviews and was not disappointed. Location is superb and hotel facilities were good. I was worried that central location would make it noisy at night but this was not the case. Had a room overlooking the square and there were no problems. My only slight criticism is the lack of a full breakfast. You can order individual items in the hotel restaurant such as pastries, toast etc but you have to pay for them individually. I would prefer to have a buffet type arrangement where you can help yourself. However, overall a great little hotel in a beautiful city - highly recommended.

Room Tip: Pay the extra supplement for a room with a view over the square.

The hotel is situated in the main square in the old town (traffic free, lots of restaurants). The rooms are of ordinary quality, the beds somewhat hard. You can have a good breakfast in the restaurant. We also tried lunch there which was excellent.
A word about the AC: in spite of a special information sheet no mention is made of the fact that you have to press the buttons three seconds to get a response.
