Hotel Lauria is located on a highly pedestrian, main street in Tarragona. It's in the middle of lots of shopping and dining, and is within a few minutes' walk to the sea. The value is incredible. We had a huge, clean room, with a large bathroom -- shower, tub, sink, toilet -- all for only 64 euros per night. The staff was friendly and helpful, with the front desk open all day and night. And they have free wi-fi in the lobby and reception area. We stayed only one night, but I'd definitely book there again if we ever go back, and would be comfortable staying a whole week.

If you arrive by car, drive on Rambla Nova, turn on the tiny side street Lauria, and stop in front of the door of the hotel. Call or get someone from the front desk. They'll come help with getting your car to the underground carpark, which costs 10 euros per night.

My wife and I stayed at The Lauria for 4 nights for a total cost of 200 Euros. The room was a good size with a pleasant balcony overlooking the small pool. The staff were very friendly, room was cleaned to a good standard and breakfast was continental style, as one would expect. The location is excellent for the old town and shopping. Being November the beach was not on our list of priorities.
The only down side is the lack of noise insulation. We were woken during the early hours by neighbours returning to their rooms, conversations from the room above could easily be overheard as could televisions etc. Maybe we were unlucky, but the Spanish do like to be out late, especially at a weekend.
One other problem is car parking. We had a hire car and the 4 days parking in the underground car park outside the hotel was over 100 Euro -which was more than our flights to Barcelona. Free street parking is impossible. This was the closest car park and the most expensive but I am told that there are cheaper ones if you are prepared to walk to your car each day.
The train station is close by, although it is a bit of a climb back to the hotel. However, at 2.80 Euros return to Salou it is cheaper then paying for a bus or petrol.

This hotel is in the very center of Tarragona, 5 minutes walk from the old town and 2 minutes walk to the view of the sea. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the nearest beach. Overall this hotel is very good value and ideal for people who want a central average hotel to spend time at the beach and in the city. It is a basic hotel but very clean. Beware the breakfast is not great but a few doors away there are plenty of cafes. There is also a small pool in the hotel but the beaches are much nicer!

The hotel is quite dated, but the position of the hotel is great, the town is lovely, and the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was extremely clean and air conditioned (not noisy). Free internet access, although be prepared to wait as it's quite popular. Pool area was lovely to sit in and enjoy the quiet. Beach down the road. Central Barcelona an hour away by train (get out one stop after central station).
