We were a party of six, hosted by our friends who live in Sitges. They had called ahead to check that there would be a choice for me as the sole vegetarian in the party. Immaculate setting, overlooking the new port of Sitges, a friendly welcome. Good choice for veggies, I had the asparagus from Navarro, with aioli ( garlicky mayonnaise-mmm!) followed by the vegetarian paella. The waiter had asked if I wanted it cooked in a fish stock base ( no- but he had asked). It came in the iron dish and was delicious. I ate almost all of it.
Friends had oysters to start with ( outstandingly good- our local friend thought they would have come from Galicia), with fried baby calamari (very good). Main courses were arroz negro ( black ink from squid with pieces of seafood in rice, with lots of garlic- too much for one of us) with aioli ( good); seafood paella ( average). Local friends chose the sea bass ( excellent). Conclusion: fish and seafood are superior to the paella and rice dishes. Our local friend had sneakily paid, so we do not know what the damage was.
