“Cram in the diners the proceed to ignore them.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

Unfortunately we agree with recent postings regarding the terrible service in the restaurant. Why continue to drag in diners from the pavement when those already seated are restlessly awaiting their orders/drinks/bills to arrive. The lady on the table next to us waited 30 mins for her lobster sauce to arrive after her meal, we ordered water that never arrived, we waited 40 mins for the bill. As for the staff knowing residents, 10 minutes after leaving the restaurant after breakfast the same waiter tried to seat us for lunch despite us carrying towels and associated beachwear. Sorry but this hotel is not a shodow of its old self in the eighties and nineties. I fear unless they bring in a professional restaurant manager this hotel will disappear when so many sitges eateries offer such good service.

I have stayed in this hotel in 2010 and 2011. A great value and location. Walk to the beach, shopping and all dining (which is great) within Sitges. Ideally located for a train trip to Barcelona, but far enough away to feel like you're in a small private beach town. Dynamite.

What a fantastic hotel. Right on the beach with a good choice of rooms and proper who remember your name and nerds. A real holiday venue with a wide choice of rooms overlooking the sea or mountains. Eight times in eight years and looking forward to next year.

Room Tip: As for a top floor room overlooking the sea

The Santa Maria is a friendly hotel in a perfect position, overlooking the promenade and beach in Sitges. From the balcony, if you have one, you can enjoy a glass of wine whilst watching the world go by, with a perfect backdrop.
Having visited before, we were a little concerned by some negative comments on travel websites, but we found the place as good as ever. The rooms are not as smart as some, with lots of old wooden furniture - those seeking an American clone may be disappointed - this is a very European hotel. The bathroom was smart and clean with two basins and a bidet.

On entering the restaurant we were greeted like long lost friends by the waiters even though it is 3 years since we last visited, and we found the food, especially the seafood, as good as ever - not as exotic as some Sitges restaurants, but well cooked and enjoyable.

There are no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms which is a little disappointing, otherwise we found it a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Pick a room on the sea side with a balcony. It can be noisy at night during festivals. The festivals...

We were initially booked in at La Nina- room with terrace and seaview, but the room was unavailable, so the Receptionist there arranged our booking to be changed to La Santa Maria (a sister hotel), a few minutes away (and nearer to the Central area). We were upgraded there for the inconvenience, to a large Superior room with terrace overlooking the seafront. Lovely room with a great view and close to all amenities. A 10 minute walk from the station. The staff were friendly and helpful- especially Jesus and Eva on Reception. The breakfasts were OK- but we didn't eat there in the evenings on this occasion. I did so on my last visit to Sitges, and the food was good. Also, judging by the queues of people waiting for a table every evening it still is! If you like a very good steak, try the Buenos Aires restaurant (beyond the Church)- it is fantastic, with lovely, attentive staff. It's about a 10/15 minute walk- but a warning- do book a table first!!

Room Tip: 4th (top) floor room overlooking the sea has the largest terrace with table, chairs and sunloungers.

I have visited this hotel for about 6 years in a row with 2 children ( and my wife).
The location is superb, right on the best part of the beach.
It is value for money and the breakfast is excellent.
if you want a room with a seaview/balcony ask beforehand.
the rooms are large.
There is also now free WIFI just beside the reception, where you can sit down comfortably in peace.
I have read people complaining about no BBC TV. Big deal, stay at home if you want that
Now admittedly the restaurant needs a proper manager to sort it out but you can't have everything.
So my review is based on the hotel.
