My husband and I just went back to the Estela after 7 years to celebrate our anniversary right where it all began. Because it has been such a long time that we stayed in the Estela we looked at the recent reviews on Trip Advisor and were slightly worried that the standard of the hotel might have changed from what we remembered. But
to our surprise it was still the same standard and we are slightly startled by some of the reviews left on Trip Advisor.
The hotel is very modern, clean with very big, comfortable rooms. They are all designed in different styles and although it might not be everybodies taste (I mean the paintings on the wall) in the end it is only a hotel room. Important to us is that you have a spacious
room, a balcony overlooking the sea, a good bed and a nice bathroom and the Estela certainly ticks all those boxes. We wouldn't recommend
this hotel as a "holiday resort", however if you just want to get away for a long weekend and be by the sea, away from the buzz of Barcelona, then the Estela is certainly our tip. The breakfast is outstanding (incl. Parma Ham, various pastries, cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, scrambled egg, bacon, sausages, juices, cornflakes, toast, bread and even Champagne on a Sunday). We had one lunch in the hotel and even that was very nice. The pool area is very small, but again if you just want a bit of "get away" and sunbathe it doesn't matter. The good thing was that we had the pool area nearly every day to ourselves. The staff at the Estela went out of their way to help us and fulfill our wishes. They have all been very friendly.
The beach down by the Estela is probably not the greatest, but this is down to everybodies personal taste (I am a bit spoiled having grown up on an island with the most beautiful beach). The walk into Sitges takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Please note that the restaurants
will be empty before 10pm and most of them don't even open before 8pm. This is the Spanish way, so if you don't want to sit all by yourself you have to wait a loooooong time. We have travelled a lot and are quite fussy, however I am not a fussy eater, but was struggling big time to find a restaurant that serves food that sounded appealing. I just could not get my head around eating "pork trotters filled with xxxx" or "rabbit with snails" or "xxxxx gizzards". We were struggling to even find a normal Pizza restaurant and the one we went to on our first evening (right beneath the hotel in the harbour) was absolutely disgusting. One night we found a "barbecued chicken" place downtown, which doesn't look very flash, but the food was surprisingly nice (and simple). All in all we had a good time and can recommend this hotel.
