I have no idea how the Spanish hotel rating system works, but do not for a second make the mistake as we did of thinking this would be equal to that of a AAA 4 Diamond hotel.
For starters, this property is a 20 minute walk from the center of Sitges. In other words, it is NOT conveniently located. If you would rather not walk, it will be an 8€ taxi fare. Think $11 given the current exchange rate.
The rooms are bare bones. The amenities are of the lowest quality you would find in a US property such as a Motel 6. There isn't even a box of tissue. Each room comes with a little packet that has three or four napkins folded up inside and the package is marked tissue. Our room had odd lavender hued drapes and lavender bed spreads on the twin beds. Pergo floors.
Also, this property advertises itself as being 50 metres from the beach. That is probably a bit of an exaggeration. You'll be walking well over a block to get to the beach, but there is a boardwalk for the 20 minute walk into Sitges....and that is at a nice pace.
Air conditioning cannot be controlled other than to switch it on or off. That's it, on or off. We left it running at all times and the room was acceptable but not as cool as we would have preferred.
Here's another little surprise. If you would like to use the room safe, you pay a 25€ deposit and then a charge of 3€ per day.
It appears a lot of lower end companies put on meetings for their staff at this hotel.
Breakfast was included in our rate.
I would not recommend this property to anyone.

My friend and I have been visiting the antemare for the past 4 years, usually in September but this time for 5 nights in July. Although we always have a pleasant stay, it is true to say that the hotel has been in need of some work doing for a while now.
However its location, outside of the main town and accessed by a walk along the beautiful Sitges promenade has always been, for us, a bonus.

On arriving this year, we were pleased to see that the pool has been completely re-fitted since our last visit and is looking great. The area has been extended, completely re-tiled in grey granite. the pool itself has been re-tiled in dark blue mosaic and looks lovely. There is a 7ft high waterfall at the end furthest from the hotel with a temporary structure next to it which turned out to be a bar. All of the loungers are new and of a high quality (not those rubbishy plastic ones), the parasols are also new, there is a gazebo at the hotel end for those who want to stay out of the sun.

All very nice, but the real surprise came in the evening when the pool area is transformed into an outside bar, complete with comfortable seating, sofas, cushions etc, ambient lighting (some of which is projected from behind the waterfall), lanterns, mood music and the temporary bar opens up for service.
A really lovely atmosphere for those who dont want the noise of the town centre.

Thats the good stuff, now the negatives:
The rooms are in real need of a refit. Nothing has been done with them in the 4 years i have been visiting and they look very tired. Although theyre clean, air conditioned and well serviced every day they do need some decoration and the batrhrooms are very old fashioned. Rooms are also small.

A minor quibble is that the only english speaking tv channel available is CNN which gets boring after a couple of days. I know youre not going to Sitges to watch TV but if theyre going to provide the service they should ensure that it meets the requirements of british and american guests of which there are many.

The restaurent opens for lunch and dinner but our experience is that the food didnt match up to the flowery descriptions on the menu. They should also get the translations checked as some of them are hilarious, theres no need for this as the reception staff speak excellent english. Bar snacks are available and are fine although the choice is limited.

To summarise:
Great location if you want peace and quiet.
Lovely pool area.
Rooms need an upgrade.
Give the restaurent a miss.

We spent 10 nights in the Hotel Antemare and found it very friendly. The receptionists were always smiling and happy to answer any questions you had. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a menu of the day for 16.00 euros which was delicious. Breakfast was a little on the poor side, but always something to eat. Cleanliness of the room left alot to be desired, especially in the bathropm. It took us 20 minutes to walk into the centre of Sitges. The bars and restaurants were out of this world especially, "Ibarra" which is a Basque tapas bar.
People in general were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant Santa Maria on the seafront, very good food, value for money and excellent service.
We would certainly return to the hotel.

We stayed at the Antemare for 6 nights in Sep 06. It is located on a small road, one block from the beach. It is about 20 min walk to the Sitges train station and generally no cabs are available either at the hotel or the station. The hotel should really be 2 star and not 4 star as advertised. The rooms are clean, very small, with two small beds. There is no room for an extra cot or to even put 2 suitcases on the floor. We had our daughter with us and the only way for us to manage was to push the two beds together. The pool looked OK but we did not use it. The included breakfast is adequate. There are good restaurants about 10 min away on the promenade.

A minor quibble was that they charged 3 euros per day for using the safe in the room !
