Aparthotels are Spain's version of the suite hotels (Hilton’s Embassy Suites, Marriott’s Residence Inns, etc) in the USA. As such, they normally offer a living room with small kitchen area and a separate bedroom. When the Mediterráneo was built, all its accommodation was like this; but the management has realised that a two-room apartment doesn't generate as much income as two ordinary hotel rooms and has set about converting around a third of its accommodation accordingly. If you want an apartment, make sure that's what you book. The Aparthotel name no longer accurately describes all the accommodation at the Mediterráneo, so care is required, particularly if you don't book directly with the hotel. The usual hotel booking websites don't make this clear (as I found to my cost!). The bedrooms, though nicely finished, are relatively small and not really equipped to four-star standard - nowhere comfortable to sit other than the bed, for example. If you want a hotel room (as against an apartment) in Sitges, you can do better.

Half the accommodation - including most of the bedrooms (again, as against the apartments) - faces the main Avenida de Sofia. When the (very disruptive) roadworks are finished (I'd estimate late 2006/early 2007) this will revert to being the main link between the town's ring road and the beach area. It's busy from early in the day until late into the evening (and through the night at weekends) and generates a fair amount of noise which the single-glazed windows of the hotel do not altogether screen out. Add to this a pizza restaurant, open till late and popular (till late) with Spanish families, downstairs on the terrace of the hotel and you do not have a recipe for a quiet time. If you plan to stay at the Mediterráneo, ask for an apartment (or, if you must, a room) that doesn't face the road, as these are much quieter.

  • Liked — Sea views from the balcony in most rooms
  • Disliked — Nosiy (road and terrace restaurant) and not what it describes itself as, ie an aparthotel

We stayed here for one week at the end of August. The exterior of the hotel looked like it could have used a coat of paint, but there was construction work on the side street, so maybe it was a dust build up. The construction on Sofia Street starts bout 7am so if your room faces that street, the noise could wake you earlier than you expected. It looked like it would not be finished for a couple of months. The balcony had two plastic chairs and a table and had apartial view of the beach. In the room there was one chair but no table. There was only one bath towel per person, and no option for obtaining a towel for the beach. On the ground floor of the the building there was a restaurant that served a breakfast buffet for 6 Euros. The beach across the street from the hotel , and for several blocks was crammed with lounges with barely a spot to put down a towel. If you walked a few more blocks, the beach was not so crowded. There appeard to be a band stand on the beach each weekend, but it was far enough from the hotel, so as not to interefer with sleeping. The a/c and refrigerator worked well. The final conclusion is that we would stay there again.

We stayed here for one night before leaving on a flight from Barcelona after having been to Southern France and found it to be great. The room (actually a bedroom, sitting/dining room, kitchen, large balcony with sea view and bathroom) was large enough for our family of 5 to stay comfortably. Everything was clean and in good shape. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is right across the street from the beach and only a couple of blocks from the main shopping streets, but far enough away as to not be bothered by late night noise from the discos (and we were there on a Saturday night).

This is certainly not the most luxurios of hotels, but it is clean, fresh and well located, not to mention very reasonably priced.

What a great hotel. Or rather Apt. For the same price as just a room you get an apartment when you stay here with a full kitchen dining/den and bedroom. Plus all rooms have ocean views. The hotel is centrally located on the beach within walking distance to everything you want to do in Stiges. I have stayed here 5 years is a row. The hotel also has two great pools if you happen to get up too late to snag a a prized spot at the beach.
