I stayed over at the Calipolis for 4 days, over Easter holidays. The room was very big, with a little office-foyer; which was handy to prevent any noise from the corridor to reach the room. The bathroom was very big as well and there was plenty of closet space. The views from the room were great, even though we did not get a sea view.

The Calipolis has a great location, central to everything, yet not in the middle of the noise. I do recommend it.

I actually got the Calipolis thanks to a review here: I was contemplating the Hotel Celimar at first, but they gave me a hard time when I called because they would not assure that I could get a two bed room instead of one. After reading the review of the Celimar and checking the room sizes and pictures, I realized that they were going to charge me about the same price for a really tiny room and no assurance of my only request. The Calipolis is very new, with big and comfortable rooms. I am glad I did not get the Celimar.

Here goes!

Sitges, is a very gay friendly town, more gay than straight. I am straigt and had no problems everyone was nice and friendly. The gay beaches could be overwhelming to Americans and I would caution against this especially for those with children. I enjoyed the more family friendly beaches and little shops.

Room, The room me and my girlfriend had was 4th floor direct ocean view which was amazing. The room however had no clock, no cofee maker etc, it was very sparse. If you got an even numbered room that didnt face the water, this hotel would SERIOUSLY BUM YOU OUT. I would avoid this hotel if you dont get an ocean view, however the hotel lcoation, lobby etc are very friendly and clean.

Overall, The room depending on location and view can make or break this hotel. With rooms this sparse you need a nice view or it would be terrible. If you arent liberal or gay oreintaed I would avoid this town, its very very different from what I am used to. That being said there are many discos and food joints that are friendly, clean and a blast to visit.

Americans would give this a 3 star rating and nothing more.

“Nothing special”

Hotel Calipolis

May 21, 2008

British couple, just returned from 3 night stay at Calipolis Hotel and was quite disappointed as the pics on the website certainly make it look better than it is. The pool pictures are most misleading. Pool is miniscule and it certain not in a place (at side of a busy road) where we would want to sunbathe.

The theme of the place in "minimalist" but just substitute that for stark and uncomfortable - I defy anyone to find a single comfortable chair or sofa in the whole place.

Our room was on 8th floor, good views, but room was as small as it could possibly be. The bathroom is large and a waste of space, bath was large, but bathroom was stark with horrible lighting.

There is supposedly one of the 12 channels broadcasting in English - info in room said it was TCM but this was in Spanish so TV was pretty useless unless you wanted to watch wall to wall BBC news !!

Staff are certainly now friendly and you are not made to feel welcome in the least. Would not return.

“Stay here for the location”

The location is the reason why you pick this hotel. It is a prime location close to the downtown area and right across from the beach. It is a beautiful spot.
The staff is polite (Not multi-lingual as stated) but not friendly. They are not particulary happy with small children. Parking is sometime difficult. The rooms are clean but sparse. Very little in the room but what they provide is adequate. Our bathroom was the largest part of our room.
I would stay here again for the location but as a hotel, it was really nothing special.

My significant other and I stayed at the Calipolis for 10 days in July of 2006. Unfortunately, we did not know about TripAdvisor back then and had no way of knowing about the massive construction that was started all around the hotel just a few months before our arrival.
When we arrived, we found out that our expensive "balcony room with Adriatic view" is actually a small, dark room facing the wall of the building next to it. The management refused to cooperate and did not let us upgrade for free, so we just settled for what we got.
We waited over an hour after check-in because they hadn't finished cleaning our room. When we finally got upstairs, we found that our "queen bed" is actually two twin beds put together but since the floor is tile, they would separate everytime you'd make any sort of movement on the bed.
The cleaning person walked in on me twice while I was showering, despite the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. They spoke absolutely no English and appeared very annoyed when we requested additional towels.
The construction noise came on everyday, promptly at 7am.

Sitges itself is a beautiful place to stay. The beach is right across the street and everything you could possibly need is walking distance. The beach was not too crowded and the lack of children running around was definitely a welcome change. We did not know it was a gay/nude beach area so being a heterosexual American couple, we were in for a shock on our first day.

Bottom line, if you do intend to stay at Calipolis, make sure to call them before booking online and verbally request the balcony room. Even then, you may not get it because there is a very limited number, despite their advertisement. Also, if you are a couple, make sure you're getting an actual queen/king bed and not two twin beds put together.
