My significant other and I stayed at the Calipolis for 10 days in July of 2006. Unfortunately, we did not know about TripAdvisor back then and had no way of knowing about the massive construction that was started all around the hotel just a few months before our arrival.
When we arrived, we found out that our expensive "balcony room with Adriatic view" is actually a small, dark room facing the wall of the building next to it. The management refused to cooperate and did not let us upgrade for free, so we just settled for what we got.
We waited over an hour after check-in because they hadn't finished cleaning our room. When we finally got upstairs, we found that our "queen bed" is actually two twin beds put together but since the floor is tile, they would separate everytime you'd make any sort of movement on the bed.
The cleaning person walked in on me twice while I was showering, despite the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. They spoke absolutely no English and appeared very annoyed when we requested additional towels.
The construction noise came on everyday, promptly at 7am.

Sitges itself is a beautiful place to stay. The beach is right across the street and everything you could possibly need is walking distance. The beach was not too crowded and the lack of children running around was definitely a welcome change.We did not know it was a gay/nude beach area so being a heterosexual American couple, we were in for a shock on our first day.

Bottom line, if you do intend to stay at Calipolis, make sure to call them before booking online and verbally request the balcony room. Even then, you may not get it because there is a very limited number, despite their advertisement. Also, if you are a couple, make sure you're getting an actual queen/king bed and not two twin beds put together.

We arrived at the Hotel Calipolis from the Barcelona airport on the Monbus, only 2.85 euros. It was an easy 10 minute walk to the hotel. The pleasant front desk staff let us check into our room at 11am, which we didn't expect. The room was immaculate and very well furnished. We had a balcony facing the sea with a table and 2 chairs and an electric shade to keep the room cool. The bathroom had a large vanity with 2 sinks and a bidet. The pool is small, but mostly used for sunbathing. The hotel is conveniently located and we thoroughly enjoyed our walks along the seaside promanade and the quaint town.

Have been to Sitges many times and stayed in a lot of the hotels there and the Calipolis is probably the best out of many hotels in Sitges that are not up to standard. Being right opposite the gay beach it is a great location and well worth getting the sea views!
The rooms must have been recently refurbished, beds are very comfy with good linen, blackout curtains, TV, AC, fridge (which we took everything out of and put our own water/beers in!!) and a bed big enough for a football team (unfortunately they were not in it!!).

This is my 3rd time to Sitges, 2nd time at the Calipolis. Had a great room (number 621) directly facing the beach and a double wide balcony, half covered/half open. Renovated room at the end of the hall so very little room-to-room noise. Nicely restyled.
Amazing to watch the moon glisten on the water.

Stayed in a jr suite the last time which, frankly, had too much wasted space and didn't face the beach directly.

The only problem: stayed during Sitges Festival. On the Saturday night, the party on the beach was so loud, even with ear plugs, sleep was impossible. On Thursday and Friday nights the music went until 3 but on Saturday night, it went until 5am. Until 3am it was Spanish music. From 3 to 5 it was a disco so loud my room actually vibrated. Have to say it was great music, but not what I had paid for.

When I commented upon check out on Monday, and note I said "commented," not "complained," the response was, "Well, this is just for one night each year." Can't say I got much support from that.

Would I stay here again? Yes, and would like to have the same room, but, if during the festival, I'd plan on being out there with the party rather than trying to sleep.
