This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of old town of Girona. From the Girona airport a taxi costs about 29 euros. Room and bathroom were clean, quiet, with adequate space for three persons. Bed was comfortable and shower was strong. Breakfast consisted of cold meats, cheese, breads, pastries, hot and cold drinks, yogurts, canned fruits. It is also within walking distance of the train and bus station. Overall, no complaints and would stay again.

“Would not recommend”

Hotel Peninsular

This is a very centrally located hotel however if you are arriving by car and particularly after dark it is a very difficult hotel to find. When we arrived which was late at night 11.00 pm we were directed to an underground carpark which is a distance away in order to park the car. The lack of adjacent car parking is a big disadvantage with this hotel.
On entering our room we were overcome with the worst stench of cigarettee smoke we have ever experienced. We requested a room change but the night receptionist said the hotel was full and he had no alternatives. He said the room should not smell as they had a "machine" to remove cigarettee smoke. He said it was a non-smoking hotel but they found it impossible to stop guests from smoking. This was somewhat contradicted by the fact that there were ashtrays in all the rooms. It was impossibel to sleep with this smell of cigarette smoke, even the bedclothes wreeked of cigarettes.
There must have been a smokers convention in the room for the previous week. They promised to clean the room the next day with this magic machine. Now I can't say they didn't clean the room as we were out all day - but there was no difference in the smell. They moved us to another room which was much smaller but at least it did not smell, but it was heavily scented with air freshner.
The breakfast is very substantial and good value as is the cafe next door.
Off the breakfast room there is a lounge area with some soft chairs, on returning one evening we went into this room, which was open, to look at the wall paintings which were on display. Our friend on night reception soon arrived to ask us to leave the room as guests were not allowed in this room. Now this is the only reception room in the hotel. The hotel advertises a bar - this is a vending machine.
There is no question that this hotel is centrally located and is reasonably priced but it does have serious shortcomings. We felt at times that we were staying in a hostel and not in a hotel.

“excellent location”

We only stayed one night in this hotel and found the location excellent. The room was very clean and the bathroom modern and spotless. Staff were pleasant and the breakfast was buffet style continental. Not far from the airport (25 euros by taxi), also easy to get from the city to Barcelona by train. We would definately recommend this hotel and stay here again, a little longer next time to see more of Gerona, which was beautitul with market squares and quaint passages all lit up, also lovely shops. Eat in the main square as we couldnt find any restaurants on the edge of the city, also try the Irish Bar!

“Good value”

Hotel Peninsular

Hotel was in an excellent location. Bedroom and bathroom very clean. We stayed here for 4 nights mid Nov during a cold snap so the heating in the room was good. Extra blankets provided in room if you needed extra warmth.

We were on 5th floor which has not yet been refurbished so furniture a bit dated. Room small but adequate. Bathroom modern but water for shower was not very warm.

Staff spoke excellent English. Breakfast buffet was very good.

One thing which took us by surprise initially was that very few restatuants opened till 8.30pm. If you visit Barcelona , visit Fresco for an excellent buffet. (eat as much as you want for 8.30 Euros during week). There is also one in Gerona but we did not try it.

“Confortable stay”

Hotel Peninsular

Nov 19, 2007

We spent 2 nights in this hotel positioned in the centre of Girona: It is at about 10 minutes walk from the bus and train station, where the buses from Girona Airpoirt arrive.
The hotel has just been renewed, the rooms are cleanand confrotable. The breakfast (not included, 8.00 € per person) is a "buffet" one, so you can eat how much you need.
