“Everything others have said ... and something else”
Girona itself was a revelation to me.
I was driven through there almost exactly 50 years ago in the middle of the night - and had no idea what I had missed.
This quarter is perhaps the highlight (though we mamnaged to stumble upon not one but three weddings - thought no funerals).
Others have commented that this quarter was like going back in time.
It reminded me, though somewhat different - more intimate - of the old quarter of Barcelona
It is indeed exceptional; but it is also sad.
Here was one of the great centres of Jewish civilisation, destroyed by dreadful religious bigotry.
We also visited the Jewish Museum.
I was disappointed, because although it is extremely beautful, in impeccable taste with wonderful lighting and no expense spared, I didn't think it was nearly as informative as I would have liked about a very important culture, long-vanished.
