“The Celler con Roca of coffee shops”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

Located close to the iconic Eiffel bridge and just off classy C Santa Clara is a classy cafe that one could very easily miss. Unpretentious on the outside, the interior reveals the best of everything that a good quality meeting place should possess. From the very ornate ceiling with colourful plasterwork flowers (a touch of Gaudi) to the lovely stone walls, top class bathrooms, this establishment exudes charm. We had breakfast here consisting of excellant quality freshly crushed orange juice, good coffee and tostado butter and conserves at a fraction of the cost of similar fare in adjoining hotels. Service is good and subtle and the overall atmosphere is Baroque/1920's chic. There is a small rear patio area and wi fi is free. To sum up: simply delicious - do not miss it, it is a hidden gem

“Very Pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

2.40 Euros for a coffee and delicious croissant will do for me any day. It's a charming little place frequented by locals. We bumped into one of the staff in town one day and he remembered us with a cheery wave and smile. Lovely.

“Come for the Chocolate Waffles, stay for everything else!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011

We visited this cafe twice during our two day stay in Girona. The owner and staff are super-friendly and welcoming to children, even doing a little magic trick for our kids as we were leaving, making candy appear in an empty box for them. Just lovely. And that's just the service and atmosphere--the food is fantastic and the coffee is great. Of special note: the chocolate waffles, which are delicious plain waffles drenched in a wonderful chocolate sauce (yes, you can get them plain) and the hot chocolate, which takes a while to make but is worth the wait. It's so thick, it's like drinking pudding. There are less sumptuous offerings as well, toast, fresh pastries, and croissants, just to name a few. As others have noted, the decor is just beautiful. Breakfast at 1900 is a nice way to start the day for sure.

“Lovely decor, great place for a coffee or tea break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011

The bar looks like it's been there since 1900--"modernismo" (art nouveau)---although it was moved here from Barcelona, I believe, when 1900 opened. The owner is charming and the staff helpful. Numerous tea choices, good espresso, free wifi. A nice place to take a break, far from the tourist crowds on la Rambla but just the other side of the river.
