“Worth the wait!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011 via mobile

We arrived at Wasabi at 6.30, unfortunately for us it does not open until 8.30! A couple of hours was pleasantly spent exploring the local area until opening time. The decor is lovely and traditional Japanese, the restaurant is small in size which is good for us as we prefer a cosier atmosphere. We ordered ramen noodles which was promptly served, more than enough for 2 people, and delicious. Followed by the famed spicy tuna rolls which did not disappoint, very fresh and perfectly presented. We finished with a mixed sashimi which again was perfectly presented, fresh tasting and of a good size. Would recommend and will be returning on our next visit to the city

“Wasabi - the Best Spicey Tuna rolls in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2010

Having successfully unmasked the overhyped, overpriced, loved by food snobs place that is Shunka, I am glad to say that I can now write a more positive review.
Wasabi, quite simply put is an amazing little find on the edge of Gracia. Doesnt look like much, and the interior is simple, but the staff are friendly, the food amazing at a good price, and the ambience is down to earth. Let me reiterate a point - any place where REAL Japanese people eat on a regular basis, where you can reserve your bottle of Saki behind the bar, and a place which appears on Japanese websites....well it MUST be good. OK its not going to win any Michelin stars, but who cares? Just because you pay 3x more at places like Shunka, Ken, or other such "pijo places", it doesnt mean that it is superior.
Wasabi is fabled and famous for one dish in particular. People flock from all round the world to sample its Ambrosial taste. Spicey Tuna has NEVER tasted so good, and it usurps and crushes any sushi dish I have ever tasted in BCN, or any other city round the world. I urge and dare you - try it.
The Okonamiyaki is also very good and if you are not afraid to try something a little different, then go for it. It melts in the mouth.
The service is friendly and never have I heard of any complaints about the place. I hope this review elevates Wasabi into the TOP 5 Sushi places in Barcelona, because it is deserving of its place there.

“Very positive surprise, after some mixed expectations.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2009

After heaving read reviews not only here on TA, but also on Japanese websites, I had to go and try this place. When we arrived I was a bit underwhelmed by the decor and feared to get only so so Japanese food.

But don't let the average interior and the not 100% Japanese speaking wait staff fool you. The quality of food was outstanding! The sashimi was not only fresh, but the best possible cut of the critter. It actually had better items on it than the description on the menu promised (i.e. Ikura)

Price seemed cheap after having received this great food. Service was very nice, too.

“Simply Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2009

Wasabi has become my favourite Japanese restaurant in Barcelona. I have been to many of them and this one is simply superb!
Food is amazing. I so love Sushi Tempura and Maki Mori and, for those who love Yakisoba or other types of noodles, there's a wide range of dishes.

The restaurant itself is not very glamorous or trendy but it is always full of japanese people and that's a good sign. I always sit by the bar, in front of the friendly cook who makes the makis. It is a comfy place if you go by yourself or with another person.
During lunch times Wasabi has a Menu where you can choose 3 dishes (sald, soup, makis) out of a list of several courses, all of them for just 10€! (total Bargain!). Dinners can cost you around 23€.

All in all, this restaurant is a great place if you love the this type of food. I totally recommend it and it is worth the visit. You will not be disappointed.

I was impressed by the creativity and taste of the sushi rolls I had the first time. Maybe best rolls ever.
