“Forget Tourist Tapas, try Bar Mut!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

Best we tried in Barcelona! Original, tasty and great value. Bar Mut is small, but big on flavours with a true Catalan heart. Enjoyed a great late lunch on New Years Day and nothing was too much trouble. Finished with traditional digestifs, one of which we didn't know of. If you like this...you should try Moda Restaurant in Brisbane (Australia).

“A Hip Bar In the Gracia District”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

After a morning of Gaudi tours, our guide recommended lunch at Bar Mut. (Nickname for Vermouth). It was a Sunday when many restaurants are closed. The space is small and a reservation is essential. We sat at the "Piano Bench" table, where small plates are rested on the closed piano keyboard and two small chairs are set up next to the piano bench, with the bench serving as the main table. The food was excellent and served in small portions to share, with an emphasis on seafood. There is no printed menu - the wait staff verbally describes the specials of the day. The wine list was excellent too. The average age group for Bar Mut when we were there was young people in their 20's and 30's. A group at the table next to us said it's primarily a local place with few tourists and, while it is considered expensive, they love it. It's a bit off-beat, but we were comfortable and enjoyed the excellent food and atmosphere.

“Excellent Food & Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2013

Bar Mut is both atmospheric and also quirky at the same time. It generally has two sittings, one early at 20:00 and a later one at 22:30. We booked for the earlier sitting, when we arrived all of the tables were reserved, so it pays to book ahead, we were able to have our pick of the tables.

When I say tables, you are really sitting at small bench type tables which are quite high and you are sitting on a high stool rather than a chair. All of which I think sets it apart from a conventional restaurant and adds to the overall atmosphere.

We choose to sit next to the fish display, which was also close to where some of the cooking was undertaken.

We picked four dishes to share and each was excellent, which including large scallops, monkfish, prawns and octopus which was fantastic!

The staff were very friendly and helpful, Bar Mut has an excelent wine list.

Its not cheap, but I would definately visit Bar Mut again and would not hesitate to recommend that other visit this excellent restuarant.

“Uncomfortable but worth it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

Bar Mut.Very small seating a little uncomfortable. The food is top notch, every day the menu has some regular dishes but they have different specials every day. If you have a problem understanding Spanish the waiters will explain everything in English. The fish is displayed in a glass display case and the cooking is done in front of you. The food is very much tapes style and good for sharing.

“Tiny,hip and inviting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

We walked in (with a reservation) to this charming, casual Tapas bar. It was obvious we were Americans with limited Spanish. The owner translated and was
adorable--telling us to start with three dishes and then go from there.Unfortunately,
my companion did not eat shellfish and the dishes are shared. I being the more
adventurous of the two tried Bison--it was incredible--grilled to perfection. We loved
this place so much--the food, the ambience--the people that we returned for a
second time. The owner overheard that it was my Birthday celebration. They con-
cocted this fabulous dessert and said--"it is our gift to you" as they sung Happy
Birthday. What a night!
