“The best restaurant in Barca without a star”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2009

For a restaurant to cope with a party of 17 diners all at once and to produce such superb food with such fantastic service is wonderful.

This is undoubtedly the best restaurant I have used in Cataluña except the Michelin starred places like El Bulli El Celler de can Roca etc.

Highly recommended

“Excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2009

We ate here a couple of nights back and had a great meal, and would highly recommend this place.

Inside its nice but dangerously close to not with its garish bright orange plaster stripped back to the original brickwork in patches and covered with Christmas tree lights, with piped in MTV on a large screen in the bar which would probably put off more elderly diners or those wanting a more romantic experience.

We opted for the surprise menu (or degustacion menu as they called it tonight) - eu40. The reason it is called the surprise menu is that you will be surprised how you managed to eat so much.

Starting off you have about 10 tapes like plates with things like, deep fried olives, camembert in strawberry sauce, pepper in cheese sauce, and a lovely ball of carpaccio wrapped around a sweet physalis and served on a spoon of balsamic vinegar, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face! Following this we had 5 more courses, firstly a creamy risotto wrapped in pasta and served with a hazelnut sauce, then langoustine with a pepper sauce, next grilled fish with raspberry sauce. The meat dish was the chef's secret mystery meat dish though Marco, our waiter, did assure us it was not the classic Catalan dish of roast cat - seemed like pork, rabbit and something else with a fish like texture but it was nice; perhaps it was the last diners who dared to complain? Lastly for dessert strawberry surprise, a frozen strawberry mousse baked in filo pastry with slices of sweet strawberries and a touch of strawberry sauce.

All in all very good and excellent value though perhaps just a little too much food :) Only downsides were that the Cava we ordered had not been chilled so we had to have another, and some of the plates were chipped.

“Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2009

We have just returned from a long weekend in Barcelona & sampled Classic Gotic on Sunday (15/02/09) evening. It was very quiet when we arrived at aproximately 10.30pm but it is out of season & a Sunday night & didn't dampen our experience. As previous reviewers mentioned, we were given a "welcome cocktail" which was like a sparkling pineapple / fruit juice - it was lovely & a really nice touch. To start with we had tomato bread & a complimentary portion of hot breaded olives. We then had the terriaki chicken skewers which were absolutely fabulous - i cant praise this dish & all the individual flavours enough. It really was delious. The portion wasn't huge so those with a bigger appetite may have to order a side dish, but it was certainly more than adequate for me. My dining companion had veal which was really tasty & again, full of flavour. Desert was a chocolate mousse - very light in texture but really really good & i enjoyed a strawberry cheesecake. The deserts are small & are brought up to the table on a tray for you to see before you pick. The only difficulty was deciding what to have! We also had a lovely bottle of wine which was very well priced. Complimentary shots of liquer were also provided.

The waiting staff were very efficient. Our waiter was extremely helpful & friendly without being over bearing & we enjoyed a drink & a chat at the bar with him after our delicious meal.

Would definetly recommend this resturaunt to anyone who enjoys & appreciates fine food.

“A must in Barcelona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2008

I can say this was the best meal I've had in a restaurant, I liked it so much that the last night of my honeymoon in Barcelona I spent it dinning at Classic Gotic. The chef was told about us being on our honeymoon which prompted him to come to our table and congratulate us and to make sure we enjoyed our meal. The chef/owner really loves what he does and it shows.
