“First Trip to Barcelona? - stay here!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2011

Location, location, location - minutes from La Ramblas and the Barri Gotic, experience the bohemium side to everyday living in Barcelona. You are located next to the University, the street is buzzing by day and relatively quiet by night, benefiting from cool, trendy bars with great cocktail happy hours only minutes away. Hotel location: Very safe, excellent choice of bars, restaurants, patisseries, shops nearby. This is THE location for holidaying on foot. Get the Renfe train from the airport, 3 stops to Psg de Gracia (not the nearest to the hotel but well worth the 5 min walk) to experience your first views of Barcelona City.
If feeling adventurous and looking for an alternative to the open-top bus, hire a scooter - local hire shop recommended by the very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Then sooth the saddle-sore in the roof-top jacuzzi - a great location to watch the sunset.
Facilities: Jacuzzi, sun loungers, wifi - not great signal in room (4th floor) as router in ground floor Reception, communal computer and printer for guest use, Free chilled bottled water in Reception. Rooms VERY clean, spatious, maid service ans new towels daily. Air con - close shutters at night, to dim the noise of the early morning glass refuse collection outside. Would recommned this hotel to individuals, couples, groups, business users alike

We went to Barcelona from 13/03 to 18/03/2011. When we arrived at the hotel, first impression of the neighbourhood was "where the hell did they drop us". The buildings are tagged with grafiti and looked desolate.
Once inside the hotel, things were different. Very friendly staff, clean and, for a city, large rooms. Since the hotel is on a side street of the Ramblas, the noise was very limited. Breakfast is quite extensive: a selection of cheeses, cold cuts, cereals, yoghurt, ... nothing hot although. Internet is free: a computer stands at your disposal and bottles of water are also free (to be taken out of a fridge).

2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2011

I stayed here for 5 nights in Feb during a Professional Conference with 5 colleagues.

Let's start with the location. The Hotel is on a side street just two minutes walkoff La Rambla in the heart of Barcelona and close to the Metro system. So great for access. Like very many of the hotels in this area the side streets can be a little unnerving late at night but with a little care and not being alone, you should be fine. It would be unfair to judge the hotel on this criteria since it is a characteristic of the area.

The hotel itself has a small front entrance which leads into a long narrow area which houses both the reception and thr brreakfasting area (more about this later).

I will mainly describe my room but as my colleagues were in the same hotel then it transpires that their experiences were pretty similar.

The rooms are described in the hotel blurb as spacious and Avant Garde. They are neither. They are small and very basic. My bed had approx 12 inches gap from the opposing wall and you could not walk around it without leaning. There was no proper desk for a laptop, and the single chaair was moulded plastic. The rooms are also described as sound proofed. Mine was not soundproofed enough and as the whole hotel is Lino, not carpe,t the sound reverberated from the corridor and adjacent rooms. It has a small LCD TV on the wall, but when in Barcelona..who cares

The room and bathroom were very clean and bedding was a little worn but also very clean. The shower has good pressure and is hot, but occasionally would jump up in temperature and get near scalding. The shower curtain was very light and flimsy and tended to cling to me whilst showering and therefore allow water to gather on the floor. The shower plug mechanism was broken and missing and I had to physically remove and add the plug before and after each shower.

The room was functional but one bed-side lamp had no plug and one was socket did not work. The WiFi signal strength was good in the room but it was slow (compared to most hotels I have stayed in).

There is a rear outside balcony which is overlooked on all sides by tall buildings but I prefer this to a front facing one as it is quieter.

The breakfast is very basic continental and for me was not up to the standard I have enjoyed in all the other hotels I have stayed in when in Barcelona. You also eat this facing the reception desk in what is a very basic area.

So all in all I would say probably the lowest standard of Hotel I have stayed in here. I can't comment on price as during our conference all hotels in Barcelona are a little inflated.

Hopefully you will see from my review I normally strike a good balance and try to be fair.

I booked this hotel because it was central, fit my budget and the online reviews were good. It lived up to the reviews. The location was wonderful and the hotel itself was lovely. I would say, however, that I'd go for a double room next time. I had booked a single, which was small and had no outside window. It got a bit stuffy but if I opened the window to the interior courtyard, a lot of noise came in. My friends had a double, which was spacious and even had a small balcony -- for maybe 10 or 15 more Euros per night. They did comment that the walls were paper thin and they could hear every word that was said in the next room. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but there were any number of great options in the vicinity. It was the perfect place to base myself for my first trip to Barcelona -- on days when I felt like taking it easy, there was plenty to do in the immediate neighbourhood (like MACBA, the modern art gallery) and the hotel itself (like the roof terrace.) On other days, I could stroll down Las Ramblas to the port or venture further afield through the nearby metro stations very easily. The free wifi was also a bonus.

Can't wait to get back to Barcelona and I definitely plan to stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from Les Rambles and Placa Catalunya, the heart of Barcelona, where the Metro and many buses (all night buses) interchange. Rooms are not large but VERY clean and well equipped for a 3star-hotel. Staff always helpful. 24 hour reception. Water bottles free all the time, tea and coffee from 3p.m. Most rooms do not face the street so they are quiet.
