“Gorria a meat eaters dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

I have been coming to this Basque Navarran restaurant for 10 years, always have a great meal, was just there May 8- and 10th both nights empty at 10pm and full by 10:30. My waiter Javier has been there 20 plus years and knows the menu. I had Hake fish with clams green peas in a slightly green sauce, also we had the monster veal chop for 52 Euros.Impressive cooking that wows guests at this longtime family-run in Eixample, where “you eat very well; a rustic farmhouse setting and “helpful older waiters make the whole experience memorably enjoyable”, so most feel the steep bill is justified. Will be back every time I come to BCN.

“Poor value in an old fashioned setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013 via mobile

Based in a cellar this restaurant was recommended by our hotel. The food is very expensive - €25 for monkfish and a similar amount for pork. The place looks quite sumptuous with walls covered by racks of wine bottles but even though it was half full it was devoid of any atmosphere.

“Excellent choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013 via mobile

First time i visited Gorria in 1992 just after the olympic games of Barelona. this time it was the fourth time that we had dinner in this restaurant. We had very good lamb dishes in the past and this time we decided choose fish. It was really excellent.

“One of the best restaurants, ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

This is not a tourist place, but if you are looking for real Spanish food at its best, this is the restaurant to visit when in Barcelona. Please note we are talking about traditional Spanish food; no fusion or artsy/fancy concoctions. The place is in a residential neighborhood, but a 5 minute taxi drive from Las Ramblas. It opens at 9:30 PM, like most restaurants in Barcelona, and gets full by 23:00. After many visits to Gorria my recommendation is a bit unorthodox. When you come in spend a little time at the bar. Get a glass of the house wine and an order of "jamon de pata negra" and another of "pan tomate", converse with Javier (the owner) and soak up the feeling of the place. When you are ready to dine ask your waiter to feed you until you say 'uncle". Don't even look at the menu (unless you want to get a feel for the prices), and order the house wine (Javier personally scouts Spanish vineyards 2 years in advance to select his house wines). You will be fed a variety of dishes from the very simple to the more complex, all of them sublime. Mind you, this is not an inexpensive place. The bill will probably come to 100-120 euros for a great dinner for two, which is normal for a top tier restaurant in Barcelona. If holding the cost under control is an issue, keep in mind that the one dish that can knock the bill out of the park is the "Chuleton", so make sure they know not to serve this to you as it can run 40-50 Euros all by itself. You can try this somewhere else.

I have been in many restaurants around the world and Gorria is one of my favorites. It has never disappointed.
