“A place for unique tastes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

After reading the rave reviews on this restaurant, and it being the number one in all of Barcelona, we had to book a table. Our verdict is it was indeed very good, but not easily the best restaurant in Barcelona.
This is a restaurant you go to to experience unique tastes, maybe to expand your palate a little. They do two fixed menus, traditional and surprise. We chickened out from the surprise menu and went traditional, and after seeing the surprise menu at the table next to us, both were equally as good.
Every dish had a very strong flavor, which might not be for everybody. There always tended to be two ingredients that went well together, and then some crazy third one which would dominate your entire palate and cancel out the other two. As an example, there was a dish of seared tuna, with red pepper puree, both delicious, and then a miso soup seaweed sauce, which totally brought the sea flavor back to a perfectly beefy and fresh piece of tuna. We learned to avoid the crazy third dimension in every dish and that worked out just fine.
The most interesting part was the Szechuan button flower bud which felt like a 9 volt battery on your tongue, followed by a deliciously tangy pear puree granita. That little flower was amazing and amplified your taste buds' sensitivity to all that was tangy, especially the wine.
The staff there were perfect. They were very informative, attentive, and friendly. They even stored some tuna I had just bought at the boccaria in their fridge for me to keep ot fresh.
Overall, I would not say this was the best restaurant in Barcelona, but well worth the experience.

“Pretty good food but way overpriced for the quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

After reading the trip advisor reviews I was surprised at the quality of the food. We went for the traditional menu- the duck salad and flower Pre desert were excellent, the tuna course was good, but the ravioli and pig suckling we're poor and the other courses just ok. For example I'd except crunchy crackling on the pig but it was just soft and chewy. The wine pairing was very good though.

So the food was fairly good overall but other restaurants at this price serve much better fare. One review I read sums it up for me - not much wow factor. Disappointing.

“Tucked away foodies delight!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013 via mobile

Not easy to find- neither the cabbie or the hotel knew where it was- but worth the trouble! Had a perfectly lovely meal from the tasting menu . We called ahead and they modified the tasting for my vegetarian needs. We were fortunate to meet a couple next to us from Cyprus who also had found it via Trip Advisor. We enjoyed good conversation and good food at the same time! Very relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Would totally recommend to any one visiting or living in Barcelona.

“Little gem in the heart of Barcelona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Have been there twice in 2012, both times ordered surprise menu.
It is absolutely outstanding culinary experience!
The place is small and goes well for romantic dinner.
Highly recommended!
