Description: Ca lIsidre is the best formal Catalan restaurant in Barcelona. Royalty, celebrities and gourmets have been returning to this small family-owned, art-filled treasure since it opened just off El Paral.lel avenue and inside the Raval quarter in the 70s. Because it relies on what catches chef-owner Isidre Girones eye at the nearby La Boqueria market that morning, the menu changes day by day. Go for the classics every time: the sausages, grilled prawns, fried codfish, and lamb brains in black butter, for example, are out of this world. A special mention goes to Ca lIsidres creative desserts. A must-visit restaurant.

“Perfect dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We chose this restaurant based on the reviews in Tripadvisor but had difficulty for finding a table when we wanted to make a reservation for the next evening. So reservation couple days before is needed. The location might be difficult to find; it is hidden away from touristic places. Once you're inside and have a table, the experience is really good. It is classic Catalan food and you can enjoy delicious dishes prepared to perfection. The atmosphere is welcoming, the owner is around to make everything is perfect, the staff is so friendly, food is awsome, desert especially chocolate souffle is perfect; everyhing is very nice for a wonderful dining experience. Pricey but worth it.

“One not to miss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

In the flurry of excitement surrounding Catalan cuisine you might mistakenly overlook Ca l’isidre restaurant in the Raval, which has been pleasing those in the know since 1970. I’ve been lucky enough to eat at El Bulli, El Celler de Can Roca and Sant Pau but if you asked me which I would go back to, it would be Ca L’Isdre. The food is essentially classic Catalan fare made from the best local seasonal ingredients, the simple sounding ‘Amanida de tomàquet Raff amb ventresca de tonyina i tàperes’ (tomato salad with tuna belly and capers) is so good that I have to order it every time I go and the ‘Arròs caldós a la Marinera’ (seafood rice) is the best that I’ve eaten. The restaurant is discreet, the service is impeccable, the wines great and the food simply delicious.

“The Chocolate Souffle made me Weep”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

This was one of the best restaurant experiences I've had. I am a foodie. I've eaten at some of the best restaurants throughout the world. This one exceeded my expectations. Every dish was prepared to perfection with the perfect blend of flavors and texture. The presentation was lovely. The dishes reflected the local culture. They took advantage of foods in season. The family who owns this restaurant is passionate about the quality. They use only the best ingredients. The staff was so friendly and personable. We met Nuria, the pastry chef. She was so welcoming. I'll never forget her. The chocolate souffle made me cry. I'm serious. It was so delicious and perfectly presented. It was too much to take after every other perfect dish that had been paraded before me that evening. I really couldn't help myself. It was so lovely. The restaurant has such a warm and vibrant ambiance. It is a meal I won't forget.

“Fantastic Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

We had read about this restaurant, and were fortunate to be able to secure a reservation a few days in advance. The owner, who was doubling as chef, maitre'd, and host....made sure we had a thorough dining experience with local cuisine. Fine food, definitely worth the price, and a welcoming environment where one feels individually served.

“Excellent traditional Catalan....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

This is one of the best traditional Catalan restaurants of Barcelona. Food and service is very good and the wine list is great. One of the best places to discover and enjoy real Catalan food. I have been twice to this restaurant and would go back in a heart beat.
