Description: Opening its doors in 1836 to begin offering over 150 years of excellence, Restaurant de les 7 Portes is truly the most classic of Barcelona's eating places. Here, you can enjoy the finest Catalan cooking in an intimate setting or in one of the spacious banquet halls, accompanied by Spain's best wines and "cavas" (sparkling wines) from the well-stocked cellar. The restaurant is housed in the Pòrtics d'en Xifré, a building declared a national monument and the first place in Barcelona where running water was installed. In 1942, it became the property of Paco Parellada, founder of one of the foremost dynasties of restaurateurs in all of Catalonia.

“Best Paella”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

It was recommended by our Tour Guide Amando. The best Paella ever (meat & vegetables). My brother said the wine they served him was excellent. The waiters were very attentive and formally dressed like in the Downton Abbey series...and the price was very reasonable.

“Look after your customers and remember without them you have no business”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

First time in barcelona, arrived at Set Portals where a small queue had formed. We asked how long We would have to wait and were told 15 to 20 mins.We put our Name in waiting list and sat outside and waited and waited and waited some more Eventually 40 mins later We were shown to our table. Food was ok but nothing special and each course was rushed making us feel that they wanted our table back ASAP. Def Wont be back.

“A Barcelona Favourite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Spent 11 days in Barcelona and ate here 3 times. The seafood is outstanding, the service great from our waiter Juan Jose, and the ambiance wonderful. We can hardly wait to return to Barcelona so that we can continue our way through the menu. If you are looking for authentic Catalan cuisine this is the place to come.

“Overpriced and Salty!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

This restaurant was recommended by our tour guide as the best place for paella, so we decided to try it. Another reviewer mentioned the food was too salty to eat, so we asked the server for very little salt in our seafood paella for four. It was barely edible – I can only imagine what it might have been like without the request.
Horrible dry bread was served (and charged for) as we were seated. More bread with tomato was suggested (I know it is a Catalan specialty, but seriously; 10 euros for poor bread – ever had bruschetta?).
The food was passable, but probably the worst price-quality ratio I have ever experienced. It is priced at a level with fine dining establishments in most cities, but nearly 40 Euros each for rice, a tidbit of seafood, and bread is a bit much (no appetizers or dessert), especially when compared to some of the great restaurants in Barcelona.
