Picked this hotel via Conde Nast article on cool inexpensive hotels in BCN. Arrived with my wife and her friend at 1 AM -- didn't even check in.
What the Conde Nast article failed to mention is that this hotel is located in an incredibly sketchy neighborhood -- cheap dive bars, drunk (and rough) looking characters on the streets, and prostitutes on the corner.
I have lived in some marginal areas and am not afraid of exploring and staying in areas that aren't totally developed -- but this felt UNSAFE. My wife grew up in NYC in the 80s and her friend is from Morrocco, but neither wanted to get out of the car.
They were supposed to arrive a day ahead of me and were glad they didn't.
This area is NOT for single women or women traveling alone.
The next day, we told a shop clerk the street the hotel was on and she said "wow I would never stay there -- that area is dangerous and known for late night muggings"
The lobby looked cool and industrial. But that is as far as we got.
