“Good Value, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

I stayed at this hotel whilst on business from the 10th February 2012 to the 13th February 2012. The Location on Carrer de Mallorca was very good. This is three blocks from the Passeig de Gracia and really close to Gaudi's Casa Battlo and the Sagrada Familia. It also a good 15 minute walk to the Placa Catalunya - this is a good thing as it is well removed from all the pick pockets and chaos of that area. The lobby of the hotel is impressive and spacious. The rooms are generously sized and have a good layout. It also has everything that you need. Even the room service menu is well priced by European standards. The bathroom is great - with the most fantastic shower, and again space. The only downside of the hotel was the following: The staff at reception can best be described as sullen. Honestly no-one is going to ask you how it is going or if they can be of any assistance. There are no porters to help with bags to the room - but hey, there was a trolley available for this. The guy behind reception calmly watched as I loaded my heavy bags onto the trolley and struggled to get it into the lift. There is no iron or ironing board available - so it cost 8 euro to have a jacket pressed via the laundry service. Breakfast is not included - and although lovely, it does cost 14 euro. Overall it is a great hotel - it would be a brilliant 4 star and a far happier hotel, if they jacked up the front desk.

Room Tip: Room 623 on the 6th Floor

Very good forbthe price you pay, just very close to downtown. Rooms very modern. Service slowly but for the price you can not expect any more.

When a place is potentailly this good, the weak points make a disproportionate impact.
The good points include its location - 25 minutes walk to the gothic cathedral (Basilica), 15 minutes walk to The Ramblas, Sagrada Familia, 5 minutes walk to Casa Batllo, La Predera and City Tour buses (excellent value), and Metro. Breakfast in a light and airy dining area (outside in summer) is excellent and extensive, bedrooms (ours was a standard double with firm bed) was spacious and clean, with minibar and safe.

Recepton is staffed by obliging and helpful personnel. There is a PC which can be used free of charge.

The downsides were that, almost like being at home, if you want something you have to go and find it e.g. shower cap, shower gell - which are willingly dispensed at reception. When we were staying only Spanish TV was available: engineers were due to 'fix the antenna in the next few days'). Did I here manana? Oh and don't stay on a lower floor at the weekend because the hotel laundry is wheeled in and out noisily on the entrance marble floor at about midnight - much later than during the week apparently.

This is a good place to stay, make no mistake. Just be prepared to have a few niggles along the way.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. Room 103 even has its own private terrace away from the street.

Stayed here with a friend last year for the night. It's a nice hotel but the lobby is probably the most impressive part. We stayed in a standard double room which I found to be slightly on the small side, and with open wardrobes and a harder than average (cheap) bed, I felt they had underspent on the furnishing of the rooms somewhat.

It wasn't all bad though, the hotel is very well situated, the rooms are clean with great bathrooms and powerful showers.

If you're on a budget and want a modern hotel, you wont go far wrong staying here.

Immediately after checking into my room 505, a small standard room, I opened the glass bathroom door and a large wooden panel above the door fell off, hitting the door and shattering the glass and then hitting me on the shoulder. My husband called for help, the desk clerk came and was more upset that the door was shattered than the fact that I had severe bruising and a small cut in my shoulder. There was no first aider on site, or even a first aid box. When we asked the for manager he was out to lunch. I was in shock and needed a glass of water so took one from the mini bar. The manager came after about 40 minutes and we were moved to another room. He apologised and assured me that anything I needed during our short stay was his pleasure. As we were only staying for 2 nights we went out for a while, upon our return, the blood stained towel and ice bucket that I needed to ice my shoulder were still in the room, which was very upsetting. The next morning the Manager stood next to me at the reception desk and did not even ask me how I was. After more than 24 hours the hotel insisted that I was seen by a doctor. The doctor came to my room, unaccompanied by any staff member, he did not speak English and was unaware why he was visiting me. Upon checking out the next day, we were presented with out bill, including the 2 Euros for the mini bar water. After some negotation we did not pay this bill. I found the hotel very lacking in any information on Barcelona, and the negligence and lapsydaisical attitude of the staff very upsetting. I would not visit any 987 Hotels ever again.

This was not my first choice but we saved $200 a night we would have spent at the OHM Hotel two blocks away. The hotel is clean, the bed comfortable, the breakfast plentiful and fresh, and the staff accommodating. The hotel is close to the main drag.

On the main street everybody warned us about pickpockets so you be warned

The only surprising item was that they don't have plugs in the room for US plugs and they were no plugs at the front desk, although Nicholas looked everywhere.

Good job hotel 987 !

Our original hotel was over booked so we were sent here for the first night of our 3 night stay. All positive reviews of this hotel are spot on. Especially the breakfast. We don’t normally get breakfast included but it came with the package deal from BA, lots of different options to choose from. Our room has a outside sun terrace, and a walk in shower. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We will be back!
