“Special, individual boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2010

We enjoyed our stay at this very individual boutique hotel. We found Abel and Sergio, and all the staff, very obliging and attentive.

Our room, 105 looked out onto the shared terrace where we had breakfast, and enjoyed a bottle of house Cava before going out for dinner at one of the bars/restaurants recommended by Abel or Sergio.

Altogether a very pleasant stay.

Arriving after an exhausting flight, the guys at the hotel took my huge suitcase and lugged it up the marble staircase for me. (There is no lift up to the first floor where the hotel starts.) The hotel is hidden away in a fantastic location, within walking distance of Placa Catalunya and along a main thoroughfare; the Gran Via. Every square inch is taken up with antiques and knick knacks, giving the place an unusual ambience for a hotel. It is small which made me anxious whenever I had to navigate my suitcase through the corridor. Fortunately, with only a few rooms to let, the corridors and the threat of knocking down small statues were short journeys. The rooms also have antiques. Ours had an enormous double door cupboard for our clothes. It did make the room a little tight for getting around. Everything was clean and the guys running the hotel were most helpful and obliging. The room and bathroom was climate controlled. Breakfasts could be early or late. There's a small patio on which you can take breakfast in the morning. Or you could just wander down the road to one of the many cafes. We walked to many different restaurants, tapas bars and cafes during our week there.

I highly recommend Hostal L'Antic Espai. I stayed there in August 2010. It combined modern convenience (remodeled bathrooms, excellent air conditioning, free and speedy internet access) with beautiful and unique accommodations (antiques in all rooms and common areas, attention to detail). When I travel alone, I look for safety, intelligent management, internet, and a location that is convenient for transit. In addition, I want something unique when I travel for pleasure. Hostal L'Antic Espai supplied all of that. A safe, 24 hour desk, small, discrete location with modern security and central Barcelona site. I will come back whenever I'm in Barcelona. Abel was awesome - many thanks for helping make my stay in Barcelona memorable (and my apologies for reviewing so late...I've been doing a lot of traveling this year).

Hostal L’Antic Espai is one of the best values I’ve found in Europe and offers a wonderful all-around experience. The hotel is centrally located in the Eixample district near all the Modernista architecture (1.5 blocks from Passeig de Gracia) and the transportation/tourist information hub of Placa de Catalunya (about 4 blocks). The extremely reasonable room rate includes a substantial continental breakfast (unusual for Spain) served on the pretty terrace or in the sitting room. This contributes to the hotel’s comfort since it’s nice to not have to search for breakfast at the beginning of the day, as well as the value, since food is fairly expensive in Spain (figure about 5.50 Euro for coffee, croissant & OJ). The owners, Abel and Sergio, are very kind and offer the perfect mix of interaction: happy to chat with you but don’t impose a lengthy conversation on you every time you walk through the door. Abel and Sergio are such nice guys who run their hotel with such attention to detail and loving care that they deserve to have every room filled each night! As you’d expect in a place this wonderful, it is spotlessly clean. You might not expect the added ambience of being surrounded by beautiful antiques during your stay. I simply can’t say enough good things about Abel and Sergio and their wonderful hotel.

I traveled with my daughter and upon arrival at L'Antic Espai it was like being transported to another era. If you like antiques and turn of the century architecture, this is the place to be. The fabulous array of antiques were not just on display, but an integral part of the decor. The beds and pillows are comfortable, and after a good nights sleep, breakfast at Hostal L'Antic Espai was a pure delight. The table is set with antique cups & saucers, plates and all. Hot cocoa, tea, coffee, juice and a plethora of delicious delectables with service fit for royalty. Abel, Sergio and staff treated us like queens and we soon began to feel at home. We had originally planned to stay here for the first few days before our cruise and when we returned we would stay at a four star hotel to complete our trip. After the first day at Hostal L'Antic Espai, we cancelled our return hotel and booked a room for our return to Barcelona at the Hostal L'Antic Espai. Coming back from the cruise to L'Antic Espai was like coming back to a good friend's home. When the airline lost my luggage at the beginning, Sergio was a big help in getting it sent to the ship. We also received excellent restaurant suggestions and the location couldn't be better. Thank you all, and especially Sergio, Abel, and Muhannad for the warmth and kindness you showered us with right from the start. We can't wait to come back!

Stayed here from 17th September - we arrived far later than expected as our flight had been re-directed to another airport due to a terrible storm! It did not matter our rooms were ready as was our sangria, although it was 1am. We had the single rooms - which were lovely but you did not know what time of day it was as there was not an outside window! Something I did not like - however that is my only real negative comment. It is a real quirky place to stay - the guys are lovely and quite clearly work hard to make their venture work. It is within walking distance of everywhere - and boy did we walk!! If you want somewhere that is fairly central and don't mind walking and love personal service - this is the place for you. However, you can pick up the metro, bus or cab from right outside the door if you prefer to use transport. We enjoyed our stay.

We want to said: Thank you for this report. But is necesary to clarify that in all our rooms we have windows, Of course interior rooms have less light than exterior one. are not legal rooms without natural ventilation.
Thanks,

We stayed in L`antic Espai for 2 nights in august before and after our med cruise as we celebrated our anniversary,we always look up tripadvisor before we go away and i must agree with 99% of reviews, the 1% i dont agree with are reviewers who complained about lack of services-ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK,and Abel,Sergio.Axel & all the staff will do all they can to help. This is a real find and such a lovely quaint place in a great location in Barcelona. We arrived on a really warm summers day & were greeted with a pleasant smile and a cool glass of sangria(what a lovely welcome),we stayed in a triple room and also had our breakfast on the patio surrounded by lovely plants & singin birds(in the heart of Barcelona this is one of the things that makes this unique) on the sunday we arrived we sat out on the patio with a bottle of wine and celebrated our anniversary & the start of our cruise.Abel,Sergio have also a great knowledge of this city and were so helpfull to us with all our questions. This is a perfect place to stay if you want something really different with a great location, the hotel also runs a taxi service to the airport and to the cruise port which we availed of & was very convienenient. Our daughter who is 17 also enjoyed her stay and the free use of the internet meant she could keep in touch with her friends,I would not hesitate to recommend this gem to anyone & would like to thank Abel,Sergio & all the staff for a lovely stay and a great experiance, when we return to Barcelona we look very much forward to our next stay in L`antic Espai.Mike, Anne,& Niamh from Ireland
