“Good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012 via mobile

Nice staff, good location. Quirky lighting meant the room was abit dark but can't really complain. I'd stay again! Good value too! (breakfast is expensive for what it is. Bellapan a few doors up is cheap and cheerful and yummy!!)

The rooms are a bit dark but overall we were happy with this hotel. Great location and staff. Also if you stay here there is a cute little cafe called bellapan a few shops down with really friendly staff and cheap food. I recommend the baguettes for breakfast.

We stayed at Soho over the August Bank Holiday (UK) for three nights. Arriving in the evening (dark) the transfer bus from the airport took us right past it - the huge 'SOHO' sign in lights made it easy to spot! The location was very central and within walking distance to La Rambla, the Boqueria Markets, the Gothic Quarters. A longer walk of 20-30 mins took us to the harbour where there was a huge shopping mall and old Spanish batallions to gawk at (or pay to go on). We even walked to most of Gaudi's architectual wonders, though we caught the train back. The hotel is very close to a train stop which accesses the main lines through one short change.

All of the staff were the friendliest hotel staff we have ever met, very fluent in English, and we felt so welcome every time we interacted with them, when we left our converter at home and couldn't charge our mobile phones, there were converters to borrow for a 10 euro deposit and one of the guys even lent us his own iPhone charger. All the advice for places to eat turned out to be awesome and many were really close, a bakery across the road did cracking coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice and I had one of the little quiche like pastries with spinach & goats cheese which was amazing. Attached to the bakery was no ordinary cake shop and pastisserie where you have to see their creations to believe them, if you can get them to take you into the back to show you the 2m high dragon cake (from Chinese New Year) that is something to see. There was also a tapas bar across the road (Segons Mercat), where I had the best prawn dish and the gazpacho soup was so flavoursome it was hard to believe & next door was a simple cafe with tasty tapas open late which suited our arrival time.

The hotel and room are very trendy, designer style with mood lighting, dark finishings and brushed metal. The bed was enormous, firm with crisp white linen and the room spacious. Our room had a little table and window seat for two, so during siesta time after much sightseeing, we retreated to our room after picking up some tetra pack sangria and bits of tapas from the local shop and had ourselves a refreshing break. The room was always so cold, delicious after a sweltering 30-40 degrees outside. Depending on our mood we switched the 'mood', yes aptly named, settings on the lights to cool, normal or 'hot' if we wanted to get revved up for a night out after our siesta.

Some not so positive things during our experience with Soho was that the splash guard on the shower/bath didn't stop water from splashing all over the floor, so mopping up after each shower was a must. Also the battery must have died on the safe in our room, causing the door of the safe to swing open (happened overnight while we were asleep, we didn't know what had caused it at first and thought we'd forgotten to lock it - but then it wouldn't work). Also the inside door handle came off of the door to the room as I went to report the broken safe - comical in its timing. Both issues were fixed immediately by staff and we went on enjoying our stay.

We didn't get to see everything in Barcelona on our little trip, but it was our first time and we loved it. Would love to come back to Soho hotel on our next jaunt.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel for 4 nights. The best part of our stay was the extremely helpful service we received from the staff, especially Jonas Lanzan at the front desk who was very friendly and attentive to all of our questions. We were very appreciative of his assistance!!.

The hotel was conveniently located to the metro which was helpful for our day trip to reach the train station and when we wanted to take a metro train to a different neighborhood, as we found the City to be larger than we had expected. Hotel was close enough to walk to the historic gothic are and also to restaurants and bars in L'Example area. There is no nightlife right near the hotel but that was fine.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. The one complaint would be the lighting - the modern mood lighting made it very difficult to read in the room - even with all the lights on it always felt dark.

i really enjoyed staying at this hotel - i went with a big group of friends. it has a nice terrace on the roof, which we were allowed to hang out and play music. the pool is pretty tiny...didn't bother going in it. i liked the hotel style. the staff was really helpful and friendly, which we were very appreciative of - not something our group really experienced in Spain. the hotel is in a good location - close walking distance to the metro.

We booked the hotel for a long weekend, email correspondence with the hotel worked very well. We had a room without breakfast and preferred to have breakfast in different places around the hotel. The location is quite convenient, the historic center is in walking distance, bus and metro station are just outside of the hotel. Rooms have a modern style and are very clean. The hotel has a nice roof terrace to relax (the pool is rather a bathtub than a pool). Bars, restaurants and coffee places are in walking distance (it is not in the center of nightlife).

There are interesting design aspects but it ends up being kind of sterile and cold. No complaints though, comfortable rooms, knowledgeable front desk. Mood lighting fun to play with, and glass shower is unique-- makes it a good place for couples looking for something different.
