Clean, friendly, central location.
Stayed here in 2012 (the Picasso room) and it was fantastic. The owner was lovely, we got a basic continental breakfast every morning and there was a lovely corner shop within throwing distance if we wanted to stock up on extras like drinks and things to nibble on.
The guest house came complete with everything including a washing machine in case you needed to do laundry, there's also a computer with internet for guests to use.

If I ever return to Barcelona, I'll be staying here again.

My girlfriend and I stayed in the guesthouse for 7 nights in the exterior room with balcony and a private bathroom.
overall, we had a good experience, but there were many things that definitely made it harder for us to enjoy the place.
we'll start with the positive: the location! a walking distance to many of the main attractions and 2 metro stations nearby.
the breakfast is very nice with a nice variety of food (ham, cheese, fruits, jam, etc.).
the place itself is very pleasant, clean and quiet, which is definitely a pro, gives you the option to relax from the sightseeing. perfect wi-fi everywhere.
the room: the room was very nice and spacious, the bed was comfortable, and it was cleaned everyday, plus we got 2 fresh towels each, everyday. Our balcony was facing Casa de Les Punxes which was quite great.
But! (a big but) the private bathroom and the shower we had were really small, and whenever we used the water, there was a very loud noise coming from the boiler. Also, we ran out of hot water quite fast.
There was a very loud noise coming from the street which bothered us mostly at night while we were trying to fall asleep.
In addition, there wasn't much space for unpacking.
overall, we had good experience because of the good atmosphere in the guesthouse and the beautiful city, but there are a few cons you should consider.

Room Tip: the room with balcony is noisy, so think carefully if you want it.

Friendly welcome once we managed to locate the entrance! Good location though and felt safe at night.
However, sadly the beds were very uncomfortable, bathrooms weren't great (more like large wet rooms with lots of stuff to get soaked), noisy outside, nowhere to put anything away if you were to stay more than a couple of nights. Breakfast was passable but not great (e.g. individually prepacked croissants from a supermarket multipack).
Sweets on the landing were tasty!
Not sure if it makes a difference which apartment you stayed in as there were 2 in the building.

Staff were helpful and English was very good. Lovely breakfast of continental meats and bread. Cakes and coffee available 24/7. Great location and near a metro. Lovely district and some fab pubs and restaurants nearby. The Sagradia Familia is within walking distance.

We have stayed at Ally's House 7 times now and have been very happy every time. We travel with groups of 8 to 10 17 and 18-year old students and each time we stay at Ally's, Graciela gives us a full apartment for the 10-12 of us (so the bathrooms are just for us and the sitting and dining area also.) Breakfasts are great, the guest house is incredibly clean, and Graciela and her staff are all very friendly. All of the rooms we've stayed in are spacious, beds are comfortable. We spent quite a while looking for an affordable, clean, comfortable, quiet place for a group of 10-12 and we were so thrilled to find Ally's. Our students always love Barcelona and staying at this Guest House. We also stayed at Ally's once when traveling with two friends, not our students and had an equally pleasant experience.

We also love the location as it is in L'Eixample where people really work and live. Staying there we experience more than just the typical sights visited by tourists; we see Barcelona residents going to work, doing their shopping, etc. Ally's is also a quick walk from La Sagrada Familia and Passeig de Gracia!

Ally's Guest House is not a terrible place to stay in, but the myriad of cons far outweigh the pros.

The location is ideal: in a calmer and quieter area but still relatively centric, within walking distance of Sagrada Familia, Passeig de Gracia, Pl. Catalunya, etc. The nearest metro stop is a 2min walk away, and the neighborhood has a variety of restaurants, bars, banks, and supermarkets. The wifi in our room worked with a fast speed at all times. The beds were made every day and the towels replaced for new ones. There was water, milk, chocolate milk powder, instant coffees and teas with store bought muffins available all day, along with a microwave and small fridge. For these things above mentioned, the price is good.

The rest are all cons. We had a hard time finding the guest house because there is no sign whatsoever on the facade of the building. No one answered when we rang the doorbell, but the door to the building was open so we went up regardless. We rang the doorbell of one of the apartments, and even though I had e-mailed them and confirmed my arrival time twice (I arrived exactly at the time I had notified) we were greeted as if we had been unexpected and were not welcome. The host accused us of having gone in without someone opening the street door for us, but no one had answered the doorbell. She was unpleasant during check-in, and gave us a room we had not booked.

The apartment we stayed in was nice and clean, but it smelled very weird, and our room smelled even worse. There were only 2 small portable heaters for the winter. The bathroom was very cold and noisy, especially when using water. There was only hand soap offered, when I was at least expecting shampoo and body wash. The double bed was just two singles put together, and while they themselves weren't too bad, it was uncomfortable in the middle. The sheets weren't spotless either. Another complaint is the noise - not to say that the noise disturbed us, but if someone was in the hallway or dining room, we could hear them perfectly and vice versa.

Compared to other, even cheaper, hotels and guest houses I have been to, the breakfast was not good. Little variety and no warm food served. If you needed to wake up later or wanted to sleep in, breakfast was also out of your schedule. Paying for the hotel was also really inconvenient, as we had to seek out the workers ourselves (with no reception desk), which bothered me a lot - if we're the ones paying, they should be making it convenient for us.

And the biggest problem of all - no check-in/check-out/reception desk!! Whatever problems you might encounter, you're on your own.

Overall, I'm very disappointed and would not recommend this guest house to anyone, unless you want to try your luck. I read all the positive reviews before booking and after my stay I can say I do not understand where they come from!!

Very hard to find on the street. The elevator is very inconvenient for big luggage. I confirmed our time of arrival twice and we were still treated like they weren't expecting us. Not very friendly during check-in, didn't give us the room we had booked. The rooms with street view balcony are okay, nice view, but the double bed was just 2 twins put together. My boyfriend lamented that there was no TV in the room, but it's specified in the description. The bathroom isn't very nice and had little bugs. No shampoo or body wash given, just hand soap. Breakfast was poor and didn't have enough seats available at the time we wanted, with the owners taking up space on the tables. Not shabby for the price paid, but I wouldn't come back. The only great thing is the location, very centric.
