“Bedbugs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

The hotel is part of a bigger building using two of its floors for reception, rooms, bathrooms and common area equipped with a few computers and a fridge. The main entrance door to the building is only accessible with a key, but the two floors of the hotel can be entered without further restrictions. Our room was on the upper floor and was quite small, but it didn't bother us too much because we were on tour almost all day. However, it was quite noisy in the room. The walls and door were not very sound-absorbing. Especially when people were walking across the hallway in the morning while we were still sleeping, it was very disturbing. But worst of all, we found bedbugs after a few days. At first, we thought we had been stung by mosquitos, but the stings became more every day and we never saw a mosquito in our room. Eventually, we started searching the bed and walls very thoroughly anticipating fleas, but ended up finding a bug of which we took a photo and which we later identified as a bedbug. By that time, I counted around 30 bites all over my body, my girlfriend had almost as many, but her body didn't react as strongly as mine to the bites. Once we were clear about the problem, we approached the hotel staff who were surprised about the situation and offered us a new room on the same floor. We checked it for bedbugs, but found none at first. We saw a cockroach trap between the bed and the wall though. The next morning, my girlfriend noticed a few new bites and we found a bedbug on the bedsheet. Again we requested a new room, this time on the lower floor hoping to escape the bugs. That one seemed free of bugs, but it was our last night before we returned back home anyway, so we cannot say for sure. We discussed a partial refund to at least somewhat compensate for the trouble, but the woman at the reception didn't have the authority for this. She assured us to call the hotel owner, who we never saw or got to speak to, but later informed us that no refund was possible

Having stayed in a 4* hotel for a wedding just outside Barcelona this was quite a contrast! The hostel was OK for the 3 nights we were there for sight seeing - basically a base to stay. Family room OK

This little hostal is 10 mins away from the Sagrada Familia, and is located on a very quiet yet central area.

It has an elevator to take your luggage to the rooms. There's NO kitchen to cook, so you better not buy anything to cook on stoves or microwaves. However, rooms have little fridges, so you can store drinks, cheese, fruits, etc if you'd like.

Staff are very friendly and kind. The place is very clean and the rooms have air/con and nice views.

Room Tip: Ask for high levels, views are nice!

Where do I start with this horrible hostel!!
We arrived and were told that for £5 extra a night we could 'upgrade' to a room with a shower and toilet. We thought that's great and works out really cheap between the two of us. All good so we check into our room only to find its a double bed. We booked on the website for two single beds! The guy checking us in had no clue but told us we could talk to his boss in the morning who would sort it out. We didn't mind bunking in together. That night went fine and the start of the next morning was great got up early had a shower and was excited with our first day in Barcelona! Well it all went down hill from there!
We were given a new from which again only had a double bed and this time no shower so I asked about the beds to be told that this hostel had no twin rooms only doubles! So why on earth would you make that an option when booking? So we decided that we would just stay put, only to be told that we had no choice we had to move to this room because we hadn't paid for a shower!!?? We told her what we were told the night before only to be told that the guy (alex) had got it wrong and that we didn't pay for/couldn't have that room because it was already booked. So we were forced to move which we got over because we were on holidays. The next night was terrible!!! The fan mad a horrible noise all night which we couldn't sleep through. And even when we turned off the fan (thinking the heat was better than the grinding noise!) it kept going! So at about 5am I got up to use the toilet only to find that our floor was covered in water!!! The room had flooded! So me and my friend had to get up and dry up the floor and try and save our things! Her camera got soaked but luckily was ok after drying out! So we had to move AGAIN! And this time into a room with no toilet. So we requested the extra money we paid back which they gave us but only for the rest of the booked period. So even though our room flooded and we had to move twice, they couldn't bring themselves to give us all the money!
So at this point we haven't slept and we have moved twice. So we were looking forward to just crashing that night! Not to be done!! The fan in room number 2 was bust as well so no sleep for the rest of the holiday!
And the amenities are crap too. They have a fridge you can use and a water font which was handy. Computers were handy for planning your days. Oh and they say they have left luggage facilities for your last day so you can leave your stuff there and enjoy your last day.....well that's a joke! The 'left luggage' is also known as the hall! Oh great I'm just going to mosey around the city and leave all my belongings in a hallway! Genius marketing on their website!!!!
I have stayed in many a hostel across Europe and this was BY FAR the WORST!!! If you are thinking oh its a good deal don't its not worth it!! My friend and I were so tired and so hot that we were at each others throats the entire holiday! Location wise its ok, near subway stops and on a good bus route but still not worth it! Totally ruined my first trip to Barcelona!
Stay away.....FAR away!!!!!

Room Tip: Choose somewhere else!!!

My boyfriend and I booked two nights at Felipe II months ago and upon arrival we learned from my best friend who was meeting us that they messed up her reservation forcing to have a private room which was much more expensive than she anticipated. Nevertheless we stayed and tried to communicate with the staff, who aside from one young woman who was working her first ever shift at the hostel, refused to speak English to us...however, they would try to speak English to certain guests.
We asked to make a local call from the front desk to make a train reservation and one employee told us we weren't allowed to use the phone and he wouldn't do it for us.
Trying to catch up on sleep since we all have been travelling from different countries was impossible in our too hot room with a broken air conditioner, which we paid to stay in a room with air conditioning and the hostels owner literally screaming in Spanish on the phone for four hours starting at 7:30am.
To make it worse we showed up from a day out exploring the city to find the owner went into our room and moved all of our belongings to a room on a different floor and thinking this was acceptable when we asked her where our things had gone when we showed up to an empty room.
I felt bad for the girl who was new to this job I told her we understood this was not her fault even though the owner kept sending her to deal with us since she spoke the best English, we just weren't happy with how the owner was treating us and how we were not happy paying for an accommodation we were very displeased with however the owner would just chime in in Spanish and noting got accomplished. We just paid full price in order to not keep arguing.
Never stay here if you want a friendly, helpful, welcoming experience which ou would definitely find elsewhere in Spain.

Room Tip: This is the worst hostel
