“Yep...still the best in Barcelona!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2011

My wife and I went back to this great hotel for a second time (see our 2009 review), and weren't disappointed. It's location is perfect and is the service and rooms. Just a wonderful place to stay in Barcelona. In fact, we just booked it again for November, 2011. The very large and always busy plaza and very close tapas restaurants are wonderful, and the closeness to Las Ramblas with all its great stores is perfect.

Wonderful hotel - LOVED the free Internet in the lobby! Everyone we encountered spoke great english, the service was great and the rooms were wonderful. It's very central to many locations and I particularly loved the close proximaty and walk to Starbucks for my morning coffee addiction! There is a currency exchange right around the corner (if needed) and I felt it was the perfect location for our pre-cruise getaway. I loved the breakfast in the morning (I'd say the price was expensive but if you look around it's average for any European hotel) and my extended family that shared a triple room thought the accomadations were great!!

My only small complaint? The location of the hotel indimidates the taxi drivers (who don't speak English) and they don't want to drop you at the hotel door as it sits on a small side street - I had to drag two suitcases and my 12 year old daughter along a plaza full of people to the hotel entrance. If I could do it all over again - I would pay the little extra money and have the hotel pick us up just to avoid the confusion and the stress of dealing with a cab driver.

Overall I would definitely recommend staying here!

The room we had for three people was big in comparison to other Europe hotel rooms. Our room even had an additional sofa and center table. The bathroom was luxurious and spacious. The hotel is on a side street though and returning to the hotel at night was of concern to all of us. There is another hotel on the opposite side of the plaza that is better situated. Also, Hotel Barcelona Catedral does not have an attractive lobby where one can rest after walking in the area. This hotel also charged us a full continental breakfast (18 euros) when my son was only able to drink a glass of juice because his scheduled tour was leaving. Even though my husband cancelled the order and explained the situation, he was still charged for a full meal. I would also like to mention that the room rate we paid was of 230 euros per night.

Room Tip: Hotel Colon on the plaza Catedral has better rates, spacious rooms, great service and is in a better...

I stayed at this hotel for a conference. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, spoke perfect english, and met all of my needs. The room was clean, and included a very nice bathroom, large TV, and plenty of extras. The only downside was the hardness of the bed, which others had noted on tripadvisor. The bed is very hard, but I was so tired from the time difference, I slept just fine. The location is perfect. You are very close to the Cathedral and square and there is a lot happening. Bring earplugs if there is a holiday or event happening late night on the square. I was there during a holiday and fireworks were going on until about 1:00 AM. Overall, a great place to stay, and I would highly recommend.

This is a great hotel, situated right across the Barcelona Cathedral. The rooms are great, the place is extremely clean and the staff is fabulous. The only downside is that even if you are willing to pay for wi fi in your room, the signal is weak and Ipads or Mac notebooks cannot get the signal. Also you would have to pay $10 every 24 hours per computer, so if you and your companion have two iPads if you were able to get wi fi, it would cost you $20 per 24 hours. The hotel has two working computers free in the lobby, but in this day and age it is not enough. That is the only reason for giving it 4 instead if 5 in my rating.

Room Tip: Even the smoking floors are ok, no cigarette smell

Dear guest thank you very much for this nice review.

Yes you are completely right saying that apple connection to Wifi is no as good as it should be, and we have not find out the reason why.

Meanwhile our data maintenance company finds a solution, we propose guests a portable computer free of charge in order to give at least a good option to apple guests.

And we are really sorry if we told you that you had to paid twice for a connection, since we do have the instructions to charge just one. If you have paid it twice we will refund you the double paid amount.

Best regards from Barcelona

We stayed here for 5 nights and were happy that we had chosen this hotel based on Trip Advisor recommendation. Room was good size with king bed and large bathroom. Location was excellent in the old city part of town next to the cathedral. Staff was knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. Hotel was not noisy since it was in the back side street. It was centrally located about 5 minutes walk to Las Ramblas and La Boqueria market, 10 minutes walk to Placa Catalyuna, 5 minutes walk to the shops (El Cortes Ingles, Mango, Zara, H&M, etc), 5 minutes walk to Palau de la Musica Catalan, 5 minutes walk to Jaume Metro and 15 minutes walk to Barceloneta. We took the Hop on Hop off bus which stopped off the street from the main square. The free tours were also interesting and informative. We would definitely stayed here again when we return to Barcelona.
