I booked the Center Hotel having read the reviews on this site and was very glad I had. We have stayed in Barcelona a number of times and the hotel was slightly more than we usually pay but still good value. The room was modern, comfortable and well furnished (yes, the beds are firm but I think that's a good thing and there is a pillow menu). The bathroom was large and clean, the service was courteous and there is a lovely roof terrace where were able to enjoy an evening drink.
We didn't try the restaurant as there are many good (and inexpensive) restuarants in the surrounding side streets and we found an excellent baker/patisserie for breakfast.
The hotel is situated near the top end of the Passeig de Gracia, with its great shops, and about 10 minutes walk from the Placa Catalunya and well away from the touristy Ramblas (but this too is walkable).
Others have commented on the noise from the subway and there is indeed a distant rumble but this didn't disturb us at all.
I thoroughly recommend the Center Hotel for a top class weekend at a reasonable price for what you get.
