“Great Hotel in Central Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

We stayed in July 2013 - as this seemed to be the most popular month it was more expensive than what I would normally pay, however it was worth it!

The location was excellent - only a few minutes walk from the main shopping district and La Ramba which made it really convenient for a weekend break. The room itself was clean, modern and bed very comfy. They also made excellent use of the space (try finding the shower when you go in!) I would definately consider staying here again.

When my friend and I checked-in at the hotel's standard room, we were quite surprised to find it small in size, with an awkwardly looking pillar in the middle of the room, while the separation of the toilet and the shower isn't ideal if you are sharing a room with a friend, as there is no privacy. However, after our feedback to the Front Office Manager, Martha, she was kind enough to upgrade us to a top floor, superior room. It was definitely better than our experience at the standard room. We had a great view of Plaza Catalunya, a door that provides privacy for the bathroom area, although the toilet and shower were still separated. But if you are open to contemporary style hotels and great location, then this is the hotel for you! In addition, service at the front desk was excellent, as the whole Front Office team was always hospitable, friendly and helpful. One of the Front Office staff even walked us to a nearby ticket kiosk when we wanted to buy the tickets to the Sagrada Familia. Martha, the Front Office Manager has certainly set a great example to her team. Stayed 4 nights and would choose the hotel again but would stay at the superior top floor room.

Room Tip: Choose a superior room or suite as a standard room is quite small and not comfy to move around.

My husband and I stayed at the Olivia Plaza as a part of our honeymoon, and we really enjoyed it! It provided a GREAT base for sightseeing (right on Plaza Catalynya), and the staff was able to answer all of our questions. The room was comfortable and well appointed, and we really appreciated the extra gift for our honeymoon. The breakfast service was delicious as well!

This hotel is not business friendly. A joke actually. Maybe good for tourists. Wifi is spotty and when you do get, it is after 11:00pm. And if you can figure out their strange authorization method after an hour, you have to keep re authenticating every 15 minutes. GRRRRRR
Great, now where to work.? No where other the bed (2 in mattress). So I leave and get fresh air to recharge laptop since it went dead getting online. Come back and.... It's still dead... They KILL all power to the room when you leave. See joke comment. Guess I have to pack a UPS next time. Sheesh! There is no iron or coffee maker in the room... Like I'm going to make off with 23 watts of power and then resell it to charge a street person's iPhone.

doesn't stop there....That includes all power to a/c too - which doesn't work when you are in the room any away ...or I guess a 2 degree cooler improvement over 4 hours is supposed to acceptable.? The Seasons change faster than that. Buy ice on the strip and some cold drinks before you get back.

Here's the worst... One light switch option. 1,800 watts of harsh, glaring halogen lighting -every single bulb goes on!!! No museum painting in the world endures this kind of lumen assault. the room, bathroom, hall everywhere al at once. Flashbulb. Bring sunglasses. OK, option 2- total darkness. I actually bought some candles (since electricity is apparently scarce to supply) to be able to read work documents before bed. See joke comment again. Guess I have to pack table lamps now. Hopefully no one has to get up in middle of night and not wake partner....pulling the fire alarm is less jolting out of bed than the 18 light bulbs that fire up to roast your retina.

Staff are outstanding.... Unfortunate the product is just crap.

Room Tip: Try a hotel that hasn't had a renovation based on the space station layout.

Just back from a long weekend in Barcelona. Stayed in the Olivia Plaza from the Friday and checked out on Monday. The hotel is just excellent! Our check in wasn't until 3pm but we got to the hotel at 12 noon and the lovely receptionist found us a room that was ready and also upgraded our room to have a view of the beautiful Catalunya Square! The room was great very clean and modern.

Loved this hotel as the staff are very friendly, it's modern, clean and most of all the location is fantastic!! Can't wait to return, hopefully sooner rather than later :)

When I walked into my room, after an exhausting working day, what was my surprise to see that someone was already there!! Man clothes and stuff everywhere ! How glad I was he wasn't actually in the room at that moment ! So I went back to the reception to ask for another room.
The second was indeed empty, but how disapointing that the window was giving on the other rooms doors. No view, no daylight and worse : no possibility to open it ! So I spent three days with the shades down (because everybody can see you), with artificial light and no fresh air! This is a no go for me. Also it wasn't really clean, I found dark hair in the bathroom, this is also a no go!
Location is great, just a few steps from the Ramblas and on Plaza de Catalunya. Breakfast room is nice with a bright winter veranda.
The group I traveled with comes to this hotel since over 5 years... A bottle of Cava or just an excuse note would have been a nice gesture for my trouble when checking in ! Next year we will chose another hotel for sure.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room street side
