“It's the little things that make a difference”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

My wife and I just spent 5 days at the Grand Hotel Central after staying at the Westin Palace in Madrid for 4 days. Both 5 star hotels. The Westin Palace was far superior. The Grand Hotel Central has a more "modern" vibe if that is what you like. Reminded me alot of the W Hotel. I found the service, and the "little things" lacking. The staff was all very young and seemed somewhat inexperienced. The front desk didn't covert money which was a first for me traveling in Europe. The front desk also had difficulty breaking larger denominations of money, i.e. a 50 Euro bill. A major problem? No- but little things add up. The rooms were small- I don't like having to negotiate around suitcases to get to the bathroom. No ironing board or iron in the room which is a pet peeve for me. The staff did bring an iron but the ironing board was a desk top pop up which was useless. The next day the concierge called and said they needed the iron back because they only had 10 for the entire hotel. The breakfast buffet was no frills. The roof top bar is as advertised. Very relaxing. Beautiful pool. Great at sunset. Unfortunately getting any type of drink service was like pulling teeth. Our last night we went up for drinks and the bar was woefully understaffed. 2 people serving about 50. After 30 minutes of the server hurrying past us multiple times without making eye contact or giving me an opportunity to flag him down we simply left. The property is in a great location- within walking distance of most places. Overall- average. Not terrible. Not great. Would not stay again.

My husband and I spent 5 nights at the Grand Hotel Central and absolutely loved it. We stayed on the third floor in a corner room overlooking the monument. Yes, we could hear the street noise but it was minimal and not invasive at all. Very helpful front desk staff with outstanding attention by Sandrine and Hermo. The pool and bar are a wonderful oasis. We had the daily buffet breakfast which had enough choice to provide sustenance for our busy sightseeing days.
Would definitely stay there again!

We stayed 4 nights in September and our room was situated on a corner on the 4th floor overlooking a lane way. I am not a light sleeper and traffic can be heard all night as well as next door's snoring and doors opening and closing. On a positive note, the room was quite big, serviced and a turndown service also. Breakfast is sensational and includes champagne, fresh juices, variety of cold meats and cheeses, freshly baked bread, cereals and your traditional eggs, bacon, beans, toast etc. You can walk to the city centre in 15 mins, the harbour in 20 mins and there are plenty of retail shops, bars and restaurants on your doorstep. Bring your earplugs and you will be fine!

Room Tip: High as possible

I recently visit Barcelona with my parents for a few days and stayed at the Grand Hotel Central. I was very impressed with the service from ALL the staff. The hotel was beautiful as well, nicely decorated and very modern. The rooms were really nice as well and house keeping always did a brilliant job making the room daily. I was also very impressed with the delivery of water bottles and truffles every afternoon.

The reception staff were fantastic and always so helpful, always willing to guide us. They helped us making reservations at restaurants and even booking tickets for sightseeing. The breakfast team in the restaurant downstairs were also very kind, my mother and I are vegetarian and so the team in the morning prepared some vegetarian rolls for us.

Location wise, this hotel is perfect!! Right in the centre and easy access to everything. La Ramblas is about 5-6 minutes away, the beach about 15 minutes away, the hop on and hop off bus stand 2 minutes away.

This hotel definitely lives up to a 5 star rating, and should I visit Barcelona again I would love to stay here and recommend this hotel to everyone! Thank you to everyone at Grand Hotel Central for all your hospitality!

Beautiful hotel, with very nice rooftop! Everyone is very nice and always tries to help you.
The spaces are not very big, but you couldn't be more central in Barcelona.
The food is amazing and the cocktails too! ;)

Just spent 4 days at this lovely hotel. I only wish that I had read the tips on this website. We were situated on the second floor facing the road. Although the windows do a pretty good job in muffling most of the traffic noise, during the early mornings, vehicle noise can be heard. But MORE IMPORTANTLY, there is noise from the Underground Metro most of the time. Would not recommend staying so low down in the hotel at all to anyone wanting a peaceful holiday. Staff were great, location could not be better from accessing great spots by foot. The Sky Bar is a treat, however no cappucino machine there! Had a manicure and pedicure that was a peaceful experience but I do wish that I had kept my eyes open to inspect the end result. The manicurist needs to be trained to pay more attention to detail which is what I expected for the price.
One needs to be happy not having much natural light anywhere and decor in black and grey.

Room Tip: Choose a room high up nit facing the road.

This hotel is very well located next to the gothic area, The rooms are nicely furnished and decorated. On the negative side: the bathroom and the toilet are in the room itself, just separated by a cupboard and a glass door, it is nice looking but not very convenient, the soundproofing of the walls is also not the best. Another negative remark - from my wife-; no magnifying mirror in the bathroom... Besides those minor items, the hotel is just perfect. The roof pool and the sky bar are pretty nice, the restaurant is cosy and the staff absolutely charming and helpful. All together a very good experience and a highly recommendable place.
