“Modern hotel with friendly staff but mattress toppers needed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

We chose this hotel principally as I could use my airmiles in part payment. It is located in an industrial part of town, which is not that picturesque, but it was very quiet at night. It is only a short walk to the Metro ( Selva de Mar) and a 15 min ride takes you to Urquinaona by Placa Catalunya, convenient for the Aerobus to the airport. It was also convenient for the Diagonal Mar (large shopping complex with many restaurants) and the 'green line' Tourist bus to join in to the other Tourist bus routes (Blue & Red).
We checked in around 7pm and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. We were staying for 3 nights and got an upgrade to a suite, which was very nice and had views across to Sagrada Familia and the hills behind Barcelona. The standard of the rooms was what you'd expect in a 4* hotel, except for the mattress on the kingsize bed. As other reviewers have noted, it was very firm ie hard. I have had more comfortable nights on boats and trains so this must have been overly hard. After a disturbed sleep on the first night with sore shoulders and hips, I had to sleep on 4 foam pillows as the hotel did not have any mattress toppers. This needs to be addressed as sleep quality is very important.
We paid an extra 9 euros per day for the breakfast at check-in, which included fruit, cereals, yoghurt, cold buffet of meats and cheeses, rolls/bread, jam, honey etc as well as a good choice of cold fresh juices. The hot choices were fried eggs, scrambled eggs and bacon which were warm rather than hot. There were also hard boiled eggs. Overall the breakfast was good value as you could fill up and it was very convenient. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and obliging, and very hard working.
Overall I'd recommend this hotel if they invested in some mattress toppers or slightly less firm mattresses. The staff were very friendly and hard working, the room rate of 90 Euros per room per night was good value and the location was fine if you didn't mind getting the Metro in and out of town.

Having read many reviews before booking i feel it is only right that i post my first review.had arranged trip for husbands birthday to include football match. Stayed at the tryp from 19-23 April, the location is not ideal and is set in an industrial site, cost 45 euros in taxi from airport and 35 on return. It is a 10minute walk to the metro station and all reception staff very accomodating and helpful at giving directions.

The room was very clean, we had paid for a premium room which included a mini bar of water and soft drinks, we had also paid for breakfast at time of booking which was 15 euros each, if you book at checkin it is 9 euros, which was not worth it, every day the hot choice of scrambled /fried egg bacon was stone cold, only toast hot which you make yourself!

The restaurant was very disappointing the night we arrived we decided to eat at the hotel the choice and food was awful, my husbands burger was raw the waiter was very apologetic and did not charge us for it. Considering Barcelona is proud of its gastronomy this hotel lets it down badly.

Will return to Barcelona but not condal mar.

Stayed at the Tryp in April. At first we though this hotel was a good place to stay due to the modern decor but don't judge a book by it's cover.

The hotel staff was accommodating and helpful pointing out the local metro lines. Once we checked in to our rooms, we noticed the room was VERY HOT. A/C was not working. To add to the heat, the bathroom smelled of sewage. I complained about the A/C but didn't see a change or a fix on the A/C issue. We decided to let it be since we would be out and about for most of the time. The bathroom door and the mini bar cabinet door was also broken. Added to our discomfort, the beds were uncomfortable. Hard as a rock, felt like we were sleeping on the box mattress.

Overall, the value of savings on this Hotel is not worth the stay. The Hotel is located in an industrial area at the North East side of town. It cost us about 90 euros round trip to and from the airport. Due to the taxi cost and discomfort, I would of forked out a bit more money a day to stay closer to the downtown area. The metro lines are more readily available and if you are planing in doing the bus tours, the red line (which is the smallest route located in the north east part of town) gets very congested in the morning. Everyone is trying to connect to the center lines at that time. We ended up taking the metro to the center part of town due to the line and how packed the bus were.

P.S.
Skip the expensive continental breakfast in the morning. Not worth it. Also, there is no good place to eat in the area. Plan to travel into town.
There is an excellent churro stand next to the metro line but that's about it.

My daughter and I stayed here from 3rd to 6th April. We chose this hotel primarily for the pool on the roof.....but it was too cold to use it, as it isn't heated! Also because of the location. It is a smallish hotel, ten minutes or so from the metro, tram, beach and shopping mall/centre. We did lots of walking, this didn't bother us, but if you are unfit and want to be nearer the centre, don't even consider this hotel. Our room was modern and clean, very nice bathroom with a lovely shower. The breakfast, which we had included in the price, was great, lots of fresh fruit, pastries, salads, juices and a hot selection. Great view from the roof and a lovely quiet sleep for us both. All in all a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: We had fifth floor, good view and very quiet.

Firstly the reception staff on 14 - 17 Mar were fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. New reception staff on Mon who were incompetant and rude, when a queue formed they just came out and served who ever was there, rather than the next in the queue.

Despite having signs for a restaurant inside and out no restaurant and no explanation , so as a on the outskirts of the town made evening meals more or a challenge on the one day we stayed and had the bar menu OMG the tapas was the worse I had eaten and the empanadas were raw pastry and cold, the burger was awful, yet despite leaving half of the dinners and the waiter/.bartender saying you didn't like I still had to pay full price. on the Sun and Mon they ran out of bacon and the substituted awful mini sausages that could have done with having any taste and looked insipid and tasted awful. No excuse for a 4* to run out of food. As we are walking disabled, we found the distance to any cafes and the metro a trekk, but thank goodness for the metro. I would definately go back to Barcelona BUT NOT the Tryp Condal Mar. No green space and no cafes around.

We stayed at the Tryp Condal Mar Hotel for 3 nights in the middle of March. On arrival, when seeing the hotel for the first time we were surprised as the hotel certainly stands out from its surroundings as a piece of modern architecture amongst square, industrial unit type buildings and it seems a bit isolated. The nearest metro station is about a 5-10 minute walk.

Upon arriving we were greeted by a friendly and efficient receptionist. She was very helpful and gave us some tips on getting around and where the nearest eating place were. We were given a room on the 7th floor (723), each of us given our own key card.

The building is very modern and contemporary and the reception area reflects this - a small bar on the right, reception on the left with large open area in between containing large square seats with the dining room beyond that. There are some tables and chairs going both ways from the entrance alongside the exterior glass walls where you are able to sit and have a snack or drink from the bar.

Upon entering our room, we were very pleasantly surprised, with a double bed and stylish decor, the bathroom was clean and of nice size, and also had the usual hotel toiletries. The only downside was that the room didn't have any tea/coffee making facilities, however it did have a minibar (not complementary).

We did not have the breakfasts at the hotel even though we were offered a "special" rate of 9 euros per person per day, which we felt was still quite expensive. If you go out early you can get breakfast anywhere for much cheaper at the local cafes nearby. We also never took the opportunity to have dinner at the hotel so we cannot comment on the quality of food or service in that area.

Overall my partner and I had a lovely stay and are looking forward to returning to Barcelona. However we would think twice about staying at this hotel again, only because of its "out of the way" location. We got lost on the first night, ending up in some very dark and quite worrying back streets which had unnerved us. Next time we do come, we would stay in TRYP hotel but not the Condal.

My husband needed to go to Barcelona on business so I decided to tag along and I'm glad I did. It was a quick one night stay that we enjoyed very much! When we arrived at the hotel we were upgraded to a Junior Suite which was beautiful! We ate lunch at the hotel restaurant right away and the service was very fast and the food was yummy! We wanted to go explore the city right away and since the hotel is a little far from the shops and sights the front desk called us a taxi which was there within a couple minutes. After exploring we came back to the hotel for a couple drinks in the bar area. Very nice atmosphere and a friendly crowd.

The next day we ate breakfast downstairs and thought it was pretty good. Many different options to choose from and everything was at a perfect temperature. My husband had to go off to his work meeting for a few hours so I just hung around the hotel. The roof top is awesome! Decent size pool and plenty of chairs and tables. The view is amazing as well! Once my husband was done with his meeting we asked the front desk where we should go for dinner and they suggested Tapas Locos in the Olympic Center. The food and drinks were awesome! We highly suggest that place. We did a late checkout at 8pm and had a small fee for that which we appreciated since many hotels don't offer that as an option.

Overall we enjoyed our time there very much and would suggest the hotel to family and friends!
