“Nice company to enjoy Barcelona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

We stayed once in this hotel for a short break on Christmas.

Location. Very convenient. It is located on Rambla near Placa de Catalunya, so you’ll have easy walking access to famous La Boqueria market, gothic quarter, major shopping area, etc. The only issue you may experience is that Rambla is rather crowded in the evening and it is sometimes slightly difficult to use taxi or even go by foot back to the hotel.

Room. Our room had a very nice balcony with sitting for at least 6 people and large table. So little party would not be a problem. The room was very spacious too. Everything was clean and working. Centralized smart light management switch required some knowledge to use as in the beginning we had it wrong all the time. After getting used to it we actually enjoyed it.

Amenities. The hotel has even 2 pools, one of which is on the roof. We could not really use it as it was rather cold outside but the one in Spa area was good, yet not too big and deep. Gym is rather small but it will help you stay fit during a short stay. Wi-Fi worked with no problem as well.

Breakfast. I think is one of the best in terms of choice we have ever seen. But you do not need to pay so much money to enjoy Barcelona cuisine. Especially if you are 200m away from La Boqueria, where you can find so many nice places to eat in the morning. We once went there before official opening at 7:30am and had our great breakfast with no problem.

Overall. The hotel gave us an impression of seamless and smooth operation. We did not use any effort to be there, never wanted to ask for anything extra as everything was ready for us and before us. So it felt very much at home. Reception staff was generally helpful. Only once we were surprised to hear that we better had to go to a taxi rank nearby if we wanted to catch a taxi as the company the hotel had contract with was closed for the day. To our relief next shift receptionist was able to help us with no problem so we were not sure what it was.

1898 is a well balanced hotel. It is a good yet fairly expensive option to enjoy Barcelona. We recommend.

This is a very kindof upscale place and just a great atlasphere.Couldn`t ask for more, staff are very friendly,
(Lara thanks for remembering my birthday) ,very helpful and attenttive. Great location in the rambles area, spa service very enjoyable, roof top, didn`t eat at rest. to many local places around to eat at a hotel rest. all and all it`s a little plicey but well worth it ,the tea time is a nice touch wish they had a happy hour cause the drinks there are pricey so you go else where to drink.I would not hesitate to book here again.Rooms are nice with all the amentities you can ask for, robes, slippers, all you need the room is well equipped. For us Amer. i only found 1 english station on tv if you need to keep up with US news but who cares your in Barcelona what a beautiful place and a clean Metro system right at your door step.Take a Aerobus from airport cab ride is way over priced. You would think the cabs would lower there price to get more service i see no reason to use them a all even for getting around ,the metro is so simple to use and take you wherever you need to get to and then use the bus system,i would get a pass for the metro and bus for the days your there its so simple, and 1 more tip the airport bus is seperate so just get a round trip ticket at airport for the aerobus and use the machine i think it`s extra when you pay on the bus %10.

We stayed at this hotel in August 2012. We arrived there at 8am (well before check-in) and were not at all expecting our room to be available. We were delighted when the receptionist informed us that not only was our room ready, but they had upgraded us.
The hotel is beautifully furnished, the rooms are spacious, and the service is great. We enjoyed the spa and the rooftop pool and bar (after a long day of sightseeing).
The hotel is perfectly located second away from La Rambla, but is an oasis of quiet and luxury.

1898 is a true Barcelona Experience. Comfort, Vanguard and Good Taste defines this hotel. Room, Bed and Bathroom brand new, well decorated and clean.
Only critic is that rooms with a view to inner patio, when u open de window, can smell cooking from what I think is the hotel restaurant. i would avoid those rooms or at least, wouldn´t open the window. Besides that, everything is excellent.

Breakfast is a truly gastronomic trip, a feast of colors and flavors. Would come back.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view to the inner patio are quiet but if u open the window, you might smell cooking fum...

Good launching point for activities and importantly, dining! The hotel is tastefully designed. The lobby and common areas felt luxurious. The staff was pleasant enough but had a reserved city sensibility about them. Both pool areas were lovely; the terrace and its views outstanding. The room was a touch small but comfortable. The gentleman's smoking room decor works.

The only trouble we had was the location of the room. We were on the backside of the hotel on a lower floor with doors above the plaza. The restaurants use the plaza for outdoor seating. The plaza had a constant chatter and mediocre accordion and guitar players. It was non-stop noise, starting from the time morning deliveries were made and the furniture was dragged onto the sidewalk to 3 a.m. Better windows would help. I did not bring this to the attention of management since I was otherwise enjoying their hotel and I'm able to sleep with a pillow over my head. But light sleepers would have been miserable in the very comfortable bed.

Room Tip: higher floor or not on the plaza used by the restaurants for outdoor seating. Accordion player!!

Ideal hotel in central vibrant Barcelona. Everything was of the highest standard including the charming indoor pool in the old cellars- mid winter so no checking of the outside pool.
La Rambla can be a loud area, but our room was perfectly quiet. Staff outstanding.

This hotel is modern, great staff, but the location is the best. Just off La Rambla but within walking distance to the waterfront and shops, it has the most lovely pool area - roof top bar and tapas area with great views over the city. The rooms are lovely and the rate compared to a lot of other hotels is very reasonable. Wouldn't stay anywhere else if we come back again, it was wonderful!
